“Light the Green Orange” Gun Sense Vigil To Be Held in New Milford
The Litchfield County local group of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America will be hosting a candlelight vigil, remembrance, and call to action on The New Milford Town Green on Saturday, June 8 at 7:30 p.m.
The “Light the Green Orange” vigil will include inspiring messages from survivors; family members of victims; invited local, state and federal representatives; as well as religious leaders from the community. All are welcome to join this event, which recognizes National Gun Violence Awareness Day and Wear Orange Weekend.
As the local group lead for Moms Demand Action Julia Taborsak said, “We will honor the memories of gun violence victims and commit to doing our part to solve this devastating problem, which has cost so many families and communities so dearly.”
The vigil will include speakers and music to honor gun violence victims and the many Americans affected by gun violence in an effort to elevate the voice of every American who demands an end to the bloodshed and heartache. In support of the vigil, the New Milford Green will be lined in orange luminaries and buildings along the green will “Light the Green Orange” with orange lights.
The color orange shines a light on the hundreds of lives cut short and the hundreds more wounded by gun violence every day. Those who wear orange pledge to honor the lives stolen by gun violence to keep firearms out of the hands of people with dangerous histories and to protect our communities from gun violence. Orange is also a tribute to the memory of Hadiya Pendleton whose friends wore the color in her honor after she was shot and killed at the age of 15.
From June 2nd to June 9th, thousands of Americans will participate in Wear Orange (#WearOrange) events nationwide as they stand unified in efforts to remember the victims and address this crisis.
“We hope many of our friends and neighbors from throughout Litchfield County will come out to join us as we ‘Light the Green Orange’ and say ‘enough,’” said Taborsak.
