Colonial Job Fair for Kids at Wilton Historical Society
Today’s job market gives Wiltonians a wide range of fields to choose from, but what was it like for the town’s residents 250 years ago? What career opportunities did colonial-era residents have? What were their daily tasks? This is your opportunity to find out! At the Colonial Jobs Fair, visitors can learn about the jobs and chores of Wilton’s historic workers, as well as take the opportunity to try some themselves.
Wander the campus of the Wilton Historical Society and speak to knowledgeable docents about typical 18th century jobs like blacksmith or woodworker, as well as work to make clothing done by Wilton’s earliest Indigenous residents. Visitors can try their hand at the typical tasks of running a colonial farm, like flax-breaking, laundry, and hearth cooking.
The Colonial Job Fair is an open house event. The Society’s newest exhibition Wilton Works will be free and open to all visitors. Event is free – a suggested donation of $5 per person is greatly appreciated. No registration required.
