This summer, Puppet Showplace Theater brings puppetry to the heart of Boston with a series of free outdoor performances at Emerson College’s UnCommon Stage on the Boston Common. Running Fridays at 12:00 p.m. from July 5 through August 30, the lineup features a variety of engaging shows for children and families.

July 5 – “Party Animals” by Puppet Motion
Four furry friends tackle the challenge of throwing their first party. A high-energy bunny, a socially anxious sloth, a hedgehog with wrapping woes, and a skunk trying to keep everything under control learn about teamwork and celebration.

July 12 – “Word Play” by Puppet Motion, created by Good Hearted Entertainment
Through clowning, puppetry, and original music, performers Sarah Nolen and Harry LaCoste bring the alphabet to life. This playful production explores language and creativity with dozens of interactive characters and whimsical scenes.

July 19 – “Magnificent Monster Circus” by CactusHead Puppets
Audiences are invited to a one-of-a-kind circus featuring fantastic monsters from the imagination. Their human caretaker does his best to keep up as these creatures try out their latest tricks.

July 26 – “Growing Things: A Cow and Mouse Story”
In this interactive performance, Cow and Mouse learn about planting, weather, and healthy soil, accompanied by live mandolin music. The audience joins in to help harvest the crops at the end of the story.

August 2 & August 9 – “The Bella Show!” by Brenda Huggins & Phil Berman
Bella and her fuzzy friends go on a colorful adventure through a garden filled with silly bugs and musical surprises. Audiences sing along to familiar favorites like “The Ants Go Marching” and original tunes such as “Leg Up on You!” and “Chuck it In.” A hilarious adaptation of The Very Hungry Caterpillar is also featured.

August 16 – “The Good News Gus Show” by Harry LaCoste
Harry LaCoste, a puppeteer and ukulele performer, presents a family-friendly variety show full of songs, jokes, and interactive storytelling. His puppet pals add humor and heart to this high-energy performance.

August 23 – “Magnificent Monster Circus” by CactusHead Puppets
This audience favorite returns for another round of monster fun and magical mischief.

August 30 – “The Good News Gus Show” by Harry LaCoste
Closing out the series, Harry LaCoste brings back his beloved variety show filled with music, laughter, and interactive fun for all ages.

All performances are free and open to the public.
