Morningside Lights is a free weeklong arts event that includes a series of workshops and a final lighted procession in Morningside Park. Magical!
Help create a fleet of lanterns and instruments during a week of workshops that culminate in an illuminated procession of public art in Morningside Park: 50 community-built lanterns, each one a unique, personal reflection on idyllic solitude or urgent interdependency, rising tides or vanishing landscapes, utopias or dystopias, abundance or scarcity, process on September 21 at 8pm.
Daily lantern-building workshops
Miller Theatre at Columbia University (2960 Broadway)
These workshops are geared toward adults, but children 10 and up working with an adult are welcome. At Morningside Lights workshops, lantern building is a collaborative process — and the collaboration is part of the fun! You may start a lantern for someone else to finish, or pick up where someone else left off to create a work of art that reflects the collective vision of the community. Each day's workshop activities are part of the process of creating the lanterns. No experience is necessary. These drop-in sessions are FREE but pre registration for the workshops is a must! .
