Independence Day in Prospect Park
Join Prospect Park Alliance for family-friendly programming to celebrate two Independence Days: America’s independence from England in 1776 and the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans in New York in 1827 Lefferts Historic House. The event also features nature exploration at the Prospect Park Audubon Center and a ride on the Carousel.
Declarations of Independence, 1–4 pm
Lefferts Historic House, $3 Suggested Donation
Get patriotic as you make yourself a plumed hat to wear while signing your own "John Hancock" on a reproduction of the Declaration of Independence.
Nature Exploration
Prospect Park Audubon Center, 12–5 pm, Free
Join Prospect Park Alliance for nature education programs at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation.
Discovery Pack, 12–4 pm
Explore the park’s great outdoors with Discovery Packs, a backpack filled with nature activities and exploration tools to take out into the park, perfect for families and kids to interact with Brooklyn’s Backyard in a whole new way.
Animal Encounter, 2-3 pm
Join Alliance Naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. This program starts promptly at 2 pm.
Family Bird Walk, 3-4 pm
Prospect Park is a stopping point for hundreds of bird species each year. Join in a search for these amazing creatures and other nature around the park. Binoculars and bird guides are provided. This program leaves promptly at 3 pm.
Carousel Rides, 12–5 pm
Children’s Corner, $2.50 per ride, $11.50 for a book of 5 tickets, Free with Prospect Park Alliance Family Supporter membership or higher.
Celebrate Memorial Day with the park’s beloved Carousel.
