Greene Towne Montessori School

Greene Towne Montessori School instills in young children an understanding of learning as a personal process, a sense of agency in building self and community, and the joy of possibility. Greene Towne is accredited by the American Montessori Society and the PA Association of Independent Schools.

Greene Towne offers Montessori education for children from toddler through lower elementary, with playgroup classes for infants and toddlers. Please inquire about all-day and school-day options, and tuition assistance.

Greene Towne was founded by a small group of families dedicated to the Montessori method. Doors opened in the fall of 1966 at Saint Clement's Church with the goal to have a "racially, religiously, and economically integrated school." Greene Towne Montessori has been an integral part of the fabric of the Center City neighborhood it calls home, fostering a carefully considered learning environment for Philadelphia’s children.

Greene Towne has a 50+ year track record educating generations of children in Philadelphia. As the only Montessori school in the city fully accredited by the American Montessori Society and Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools, every aspect of the school--from teacher training requirements to the detailed curriculum to the facilities and classroom materials--is held to the highest standards. We have personally had a great experience there with our two children since starting in 2019.
