Play On Philly

Play On Philly (POP) provides high-quality music education to students, who would typically lack access, as a vehicle for life skills and academic achievement. POP provides intensive music instruction every day before and after school and over 25 performance opportunities throughout the year. Students range from pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade and are loaned an orchestral instrument at no cost. POP programming has proven results: students score ten points higher on standardized tests and have improved behavior and study skills. POP cultivates musical excellence, lifelong skills, and confidence.

K-8th grade students in the St. Francis de Sales School and Impact Charter School West programs receive intensive music instruction both before and after school (site dependent) for a total of 8 hours a week through studio and ensemble classes.

As POP students enter grades 7-12 and progress in their musicianship, they learn more challenging repertoire in the Chamber Program at the Music Center at The Howard Center for the Arts, which is part of Roman Catholic High School.

POP also hosts a multi-week, full day summer program for rising 1st graders through recent high school graduates in the Greater Philadelphia area. Summers spent with Play On Philly are a chance to have fun, meet new friends, and grow as an artist! Through studio classes, ensemble practice, and performances each student will improve their musicianship and will explore other forms of creativity and expression such as dance, physical fitness, and visual arts.
