The New-York Historical Society celebrates its new exhibition, Pets and the City, with a night at the movies series. The first film is this 1943 drama, which follows a schoolboy (a young Roddy McDowall), in Depression-era Yorkshire. His family is forced to sell his beloved collie, Lassie, to a wealthy duke.
But then, Lassie escapes from her kennel to make the long and dangerous trek back to her boy—with an assist from an 11-year-old Elizabeth Taylor!
