SLK Ballet School
SLK Ballet School provides students of all levels with rigorous ballet training in a supportive environment, led by Artistic Director Sara Knight and her world-class faculty. Students are given a comprehensive education in ballet and dance, with classes including classical ballet, pointe and variations, repertoire, partnering, character, contemporary, jazz, floor barre, pilates, stretch, yoga, and more. The School also creates incredible performance opportunities for its students, often in partnership with its official company, Chevalier Ballet.
The Early Dance Program at SLK Ballet introduces students between the ages of 5 and 11 to ballet technique and terminology. The Early Dance Program’s curriculum is designed to improve students’ flexibility, endurance, musicality, self-confidence, and knowledge of ballet vocabulary, while ensuring that they have fun using their imagination and creativity. At every stage of the process, SLK’s encouraging faculty help foster not only students’ technical abilities but also their love of dance.
Students between the ages of 5 and 7 take a shortened ballet class which guides them through their first steps in dance. They focus primarily on center work, allowing them to develop their capacities for movement and musical appreciation while exploring the fundamental elements of ballet.
Students between the ages of 8 and 11 are introduced to the etiquette and structure of a full ballet class, including barre and center work. Their class is designed to help students effectively build up the foundation of their technique and progress to increasingly advanced material. Students in this age group are able to take additional supplementary classes, such as contemporary or pilates, with SLK’s Pre-Professional Program, and may be invited to perform with the Pre-Professional students or Chevalier Ballet.
The Pre-Professional Training Program provides students ages 12+ with even more opportunities to study and perform both classical repertoire and new choreography created by the faculty. Students in this program gain professional-level experience through increased collaboration with Chevalier Ballet and exchange programs with other prestigious ballet schools. Pre-Professional classes are held every weekday after-school, but each student's schedule and tuition are customized to best fit their needs.
Reviews
SLK has given me excellent ballet training, with abundant performance opportunities and a very supportive environment. Sara Knight and the other teachers give great corrections and encourage us to work our hardest, which has helped me to improve tremendously since I started at SLK. They truly care about each student, and were willing to work with me to allow me to continue my ballet education while maintaining an intense academic schedule. I’m so grateful I found SLK, and I can’t imagine dancing anywhere else!
