Cynthia King Dance Studio
The ever-growing popularity of Cynthia King Dance Studio (CKDS) is a testament to Artistic Director Cynthia King’s commitment to progressive dance education. CKDS has been a vital part of Brooklyn’s rich dance culture for over two decades, consistently presenting relevant and thought-provoking work. The studio continues to train dancers of all ages and abilities in residence at FJC, Church Ave & E. 5th Street.
The goal is to provide students with the tools necessary to reach their full potential, as technicians, artists, and members of an ensemble. Dancers excel in a structured environment, in which hard work and dedication are valued, and success is earned. Whether learning to be on time for class, or how to execute a grand jeté, students are taught invaluable lessons that will help them throughout their lives.
The CKDS curriculum embraces classical to emerging styles, offering classes in Ballet, Modern, Contemporary and Hip Hop. The studio offers a Full School Year Program and Summer Program, as well as some short-term seasonal classes. Students may also audition for the CKDS Company, a pre-professional professional dance company. CKDS dancers perform regularly throughout the year at numerous community events, and the studio also stages an annual spring production series in April.

I cannot say enough about CKDS. My 9-year old has been dancing with Ms. King and her amazing teachers for two years and already, dance is a huge part of her identity. From the very start, we knew that this was the place for us. All the students take it seriously and it shows in everything they do. My daughter (who is an only child) describes her dance friends as sisters. We love the community of kids and parents. Ms. King brings the community together with her professionalism, humor, and warmth. We love CKDS!!!!!
