The Family Annex is an independent preschool that has been serving the Upper West Side since 1982. The school's philosophy is heavily influenced by the Reggio Emilia Approach, viewing the child as capable, curious, and competent. The classroom curriculum changes from year to year based on the interests and ideas of the children in that class and encourages collaboration and long-term project work. The teachers work together with the children, faciliting, observing, and documenting their work and learning. 

The Family Annex has an eleven-month school year and serves children from 1.7-5 years old.
