Smith Street Maternelle offers French-immersion preschool through kindergarten on three campuses in northern Brooklyn, grounded in the fundamentals of progressive education and experiential learning. Warm and experienced teachers carefully cultivate a nurturing environment where children feel accepted, heard, and understood. 

In our fast-moving world, childhood is a precious time. The Smith Street Maternelle team works hard to create the essential time and space for children to grow to be creative problem-solvers, life-long learners, and confident global citizens. In bright, spacious classrooms, children learn, explore and develop at their own pace, thanks to the sense of security and openness created by expert teachers, using carefully considered elemtents of Montessori, Reggio-Emilia, literacy and math curricula.

Outside the school year, Smith Street Maternelle offers an enriching, French-immersion summer camp experience perfect for maintaining (or beginning!) your child's French language skills. In a child-centered, caring environment, children enjoy art, music, outdoor activities, and more, in the company of beloved and new friends and teachers! Summer camp runs for six weeks each summer, and welcomes children ages 2-10 at all three Brooklyn campuses.

Children with any level of French language proficiency, including those with no prior exposure, are welcome to apply for all programs.
