The Heckscher Museum of Art

Get ready for a colorful, culture-filled day in Heckscher Park as families come together to celebrate Día de los Muertos—the Day of the Dead. Art, music, food and other festivities round out this free, cultural event.

This event, presented in collaboration with the Town of Huntington Hispanic Advisory Task Force and Latina Moms Connect, Inc., invites families to honor loved ones, learn about this beautiful tradition, and take part in hands-on fun. Little artists (and grown-up ones, too!) can create vibrant crafts inspired by the celebration—think calaveras, maracas, masks, and flower crowns.

Don’t forget to bring photos or special mementos for the community ofrenda to honor family members who have passed.

Throughout the day, enjoy live Mexican music by Alejandro Gonzalez, complimentary churros, pan de muertos, and hot chocolate, and the chance to meet talented artists Kelynn Z. Alder, Manuel Alejandro Macarrulla, and Erwin List Sanchez. Families are encouraged to visit every outdoor art and activity station—each one a little burst of culture and creativity! This is one of those can’t-miss, feel-good community days where kids learn, create, and connect while parents soak in the beauty of tradition. FREE admission.

Event Schedule:

  • 12 – 5 pm: Ofrenda and Art Activities
  • 1 pm & 3:45 pm: Learn about the ofrenda with Alejandro Gonzalez and Dorothy Santana
  • 2:15 pm & 4 pm: Parade around Heckscher Pond
