Buckley Country Day School
Buckley Country Day School is an inclusive, diverse environment that nurtures the whole child and lays the foundation for success in high school, college, and beyond.
Buckley’s mission is at the heart of its curriculum, which seeks to inspire and prepare students for a lifetime of learning. Buckley accepts students as young as two years old in the Pre-Nursery program, and admits students on a rolling basis through grade seven.
When alumni talk about their Buckley experience, they consistently credit BCDS with instilling in them a curiosity and insatiable thirst for knowledge that continues long after they leave the school’s 28-acre Roslyn campus. Buckley sets itself apart from other independent schools by fostering a deep appreciation of learning, and developing students who are committed to making the world a better place through thoughtful inquiry, critical thinking, and community engagement.
Early Childhood
Buckley’s Early Childhood curriculum focuses on supporting children's physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development through play-based learning, laying the foundation for each child’s entry into Lower School. Buckley recognizes the important role that the early years play in fostering each child’s love of learning, with faculty that meet children where they are with individualized attention.
Lower School
Literacy skills ground Buckley’s curriculum in the Lower School, and students have more opportunities for public speaking and leadership roles in the community through group projects, presentations, and theatrical performances. The school’s partnership with Columbia University Teachers College provides regular and timely professional development opportunities for faculty, ensuring the timely acquisition of new teaching skills and techniques to best serve all our students.
Upper School
As students continue to develop as ethical, self-confident individuals, they also take on a more active role in planning their curriculum and educational path, including the choice of performing arts ensembles and elective classes. Buckley’s rigorous academics are paired with three-season interscholastic sports. Students begin the high school placement process during their 6th grade year. To fully prepare students for successful entry into elite high schools across the northeast, 7th grade families meet with the Head of School individually, and students receive one-on-one coaching on applicant interviews.
