Mushroom Prints Nature Craft for Kids
Spring signals time to reconnect with nature. DK Publishing sent us a copy of Great Things to Do Outside: 365 Awesome Outdoor Activities and we've been inspired by all the fun activities in it. We shared one of them with you last week and we have another great one to share with you today. These mushroom prints will make kids gain new appreciation for fungi.

Fungi create spores. This technique creates a print that looks like an intricate line drawing directly from the mushroom. You can use any mushroom from the market. Different types of mushrooms will make white, black or yellow spores, so you will want to pick a color of cardstock to contrast with the spores so that they show up.
1. Cut the stem off a mushroom and place it gill-side down on a piece of colored card stock.
2. Place an upside-down bowl over the mushroom to protect it from drafts and let it sit for about 12 hours.
3. Carefully lift your mushroom to reveal your print. You can use a spray fixative to seal the print. Hairspray will also work.
We liked our print so much we popped it into an inexpensive Ikea frame. Next time I might try to make designs from multiple smaller mushrooms. Show us what you make. Share it on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and tag @mommypoppins so we can see your creations too!
