Tea and Treats at Flushing's Rose House with Queens Kids

Flushing has many unsung treasures, but one of the neighborhood’s best-kept secrets is Rose House inside the Queens Crossing Mall. Queens residents no longer have to travel into Manhattan and battle the crowds for a fancy afternoon tea and treats date with their little ones. Families can enjoy a tower of sweets, a warm cup of brisk black tea, and classical music inside this colonial-inspired teahouse.

The Wackiest Art Exhibit in NYC Is Free

This winter NYC is spoiled with incredible art, and now we've stumbled upon another fully immersive exhibit that's totally wacky and totally fun to see with kids. Toiletpaper Paradise presented by Visionaire at the Cadillac House in Soho, takes its cue from the "wild aesthetic" of Toiletpaper magazine, according to organizers.

Visitors can explore multiple areas set up like an apartment (bedroom, kitchen, and so on), and all bedecked in psychedelic colors and outfitted with offbeat props that are sure to thrill kids and adults alike.

Read on to see more photos and hear more about this cool and totally FREE installation that's only open until Wednesday, April 12.

Tee Up for Family Fun at New Jersey's Newest Golf Spot

Driving golf balls has gone upscale—and digital—at Topgolf, a new, family-friendly golf spot in Edison that features micro-chipped balls, computerized targets, and a top-notch menu. The Edison location opened in December, and a second New Jersey spot is scheduled to open at the end of the year in Mount Laurel.

Top CT Community Youth Orchestra Programs

If your kids -- like mine -- love playing their musical instrument, there is no better place to encourage their blossoming musical skills than to have them audition for a place in their community youth music ensemble.

Fortunately for us, Connecticut is rife with well-organized youth symphonies and orchestral groups. Most cater to ages 10 and up; all are audition-based, highly skilled at developing musical skills and encourage a welcoming atmosphere. In addition to the list of Connecticut's community youth orchestras below, you might also be interested in summer music camp! New York at Its Core: Explore NYC's Past and Future with Kids

Atop museum mile in East Harlem, the Museum of the City of New York (MCNY) is a treasured, often less crowded destination for parents in the know. Best for grade school kids and up, the MCNY explores the rich history—and celebrates the vibrant future—that makes this city so great. Plus, kids under 19 are admitted free, making the museum's suggested admission for adults a complete deal. My daughters and I recently checked out its newest and biggest exhibit, New York at Its Core: 400 Years of NYC History, and came away with a deeper understanding of, and appreciation for, the city we call home.
