Weekday Event Picks for NJ Kids: Trunk or Treat, Halloween Hootenanny, October 26-30

It’s the week leading up to Halloween, and we’ve scared up some frighteningly fun Halloween festivities every day this week! Party Halloween-style at Surf Taco’s Parent-Child Costume Party and Garden State Discovery Museum’s Halloween Hootenanny. No need to wait until Saturday to trick-or-treat. Collect early-bird goodies at Westville’s Trunk or Treat and Downtown Millburn’s Trick-or-Treat. Monday, October 26th

Northern NJ:
Something Wicked This Way Comes (Madison)
Perfect for Halloween, The Shakespeare Theatre presents characters and stories from classic horror tales, including works by Edgar Allen Poe, William Shakespeare and Mary Shelley. The production is a mixture of scary and humorous.

Jersey Shore:
It’s Alive! Halloween Science (Holmdel)
Bring your young scientists to Holmdel Public Library to brew up some Halloween concoctions, such as gooey slime and an oozing jack o’lantern. Program is recommended for ages 7-10 , and pre-registration is required. FREE

Baby and Me Hike (Mendham)
Enjoy the fall weather and scenery on a hike for moms and dads on one of Morris County’s trails. Bring along the baby in a backpack, and take in the fresh air together. Pre-registration is required.

Toddler Craft: Itsy Bitsy Spider (Manalapan)
Monmouth County Library Headquarters hosts a story and craft event for toddlers all about The Itsy Bitsy Spider. FREE

Parent-Child Costume Party (Belmar)
Rock out to the lively and funny tunes of the Jungle Gym Jam at Surf Taco. Kids are welcome to wear costumes while they sing and dance with puppets and the band.

Southern NJ:
Trunk or Treat (Westville)
Get a jump on Halloween at Deptford Skating and Fun Center at their trunk or treat event. Children will enjoy collecting goodies from trunks of vehicles throughout the parking lot. Prizes will be awarded for the cutest, scariest and best overall decorated trunks. FREE

Northern NJ:
Halloween at the Meadowlands (Lyndhurst)
The Meadowlands’ DeKorte Park is chock full of Halloween activities for 5-12 year olds. Kids will have Halloweeny fun with games, crafts, hayrides and The Creepy Creatures of Halloween Spooky Walk. Pre-registration is required.

Jersey Shore:
Math Monsters (Lincroft)
Introduce your preschoolers to math at this weekly Monmouth Museum workshop. A museum docent will lead the group in hands-on math and problem-solving activities. FREE with museum admission.

Downtown Millburn Trick-or-Treat (Millburn)
Millburn welcomes preschoolers only to trick-or-treat store-to-store throughout its downtown. Merchants with an orange pumpkin flyer displayed in their window will be handing out goodies. FREE

Southern NJ:
Halloween Hootenanny (Cherry Hill)
It’s a Halloween celebration at the Garden State Discovery Museum. Festivities include crafts, Halloween-themed exhibits, dancing and parking lot trunk-or-treat.
