Asian Language School

Children ages 6-17 can learn Japanese or Chinese conveniently in virtual classrooms with Asian Language School. Taught by degree-qualified, native speaking Japanese or Chinese teachers, lessons use fun, engaging materials to teach children the target language and culture. Children can learn 1-to-1 or in small groups with other students of similar age groups and language levels.

Japanese for Kids and Chinese for Kids are language programs for elementary school students that focus on building children's fluency in speaking and listening Japanese/Chinese, while the middle/high school programs focus on developing children's proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing the target language. Students learn for four terms a year for a duration of three to four years to complete their study. Classes are also offered during holiday periods.

Astoria Yoga Club

Astoria Yoga Club is a small yoga studio that caters to families and individuals. It has a sizable playroom for pre-school children to enjoy while moms attend a one-hour yoga class—perfect for relaxing and taking some time for themselves. Drop-ins are welcome; no registration is needed.

Also offered are Mommy and Me classes. Moms and toddlers welcome!

Baby DJ School is an interactive sing-along for ages 2 months-5 years that makes music education a dance party. Introduce your little one to records, digital DJ-ing, and funky beats while developing their fine motor, ocular, language, and social skills. Bard Graduate Center - Fiber Arts Workshops for Kids and Families

This summer, Bard Graduate Center has partnered with Textile Arts Center to run hands-on fiber arts workshops for kids and families. The workshops respond to two exhibitions, Fabricating Power with Balinese Textiles and The Codex and Crafts in Late Antiquity.

Weaving Beaded Jewelry​
In this workshop, led by TAC teaching artists, students will learn how to weave with beads while creating a piece of jewelry based on their design (bracelet, necklace pendant, or keychain).

Woven Wall Hangings
In this workshop, led by TAC teaching artists, students will be introduced to the basics of weaving on a frame loom and different tapestry weaving techniques and materials while creating a woven wall hanging based on their design.

Workshops are suitable for kids ages 5-12. All materials are provided. Textile Arts Center (TAC) is a NYC-based resource facility dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of textiles through creative educational programs.

Bracy's Music Together

Bracy's Music Together is a Bronx-based Music Together family center offering parent-child music and movement classes to children 0-5 years old. Make music an exciting part of your child's life! Classes meet for 45 minutes once per week for 10 weeks in the fall, winter, spring, and summer. Mommies and daddies are welcome to attend class with their child. The Bright Beginnings parent and child playgroup, hosted at Raising Astoria, has openings available in the current cohort for children ages 2-12 months. The group runs for 8 sessions and wraps up just in time for the holiday season. Discounts on drop-in registration rates are offered.

Utilizing a curriculum from the Ackerman Institute, this program aims to enhance participants’ parenting capacities in the following three areas: (a) developing a trusting emotional relationship and attachment; (b) promoting exploration and learning; and (c) guiding children toward interdependence. In addition to learning about child development, group activities are age appropriate to help enhance the children's sensory-motor, social, language, emotional, and cognitive development.

Butter Beans Cooking and Gardening Adventures

Discover the fun and flavor of farm-to-table cooking while forging fun new memories in the kitchen and garden! Designed to engage food explorers and eaters of all palates, Butter Beans camps and cooking classes will provide budding chefs, foodies, and farmers the opportunity to experience the full breadth of meal preparation from seed to table.  

From exploring NYC's food landscape to foraging in central park, from julienning carrots to rolling handmade pasta dough, junior chefs and campers gain knowledge and appreciation for the healthy food that fuels them. 

Kids cooking classes are open to children ages 6-10 on Saturday mornings in May and June with drop-off available. Adult classes are available on Thursday evenings. Put on your chef's hat and register today!
