The days may be getting shorter, but the cool, crisp, fresh air of fall is the perfect time to have a picnic. If you are looking for a picturesque country setting, Fairfield County offers some wonderful locations to park your basket and unroll your blanket. Picnics are a perfect way to take advantage of a sunny day and get together with family and friends.
Some of Fairfield County’s best parks and beaches are also great places to have a picnic. Whether you are a history buff, want a little adventure, or just want to enjoy the bucolic setting of Connecticut estates and lakes, there is something on this list for you.

Stamford Museum and Nature Center - Stamford
Bring friends and enjoy a picnic on the Meadow at Stamford Museum and Nature Center. There are plenty of picnic tables for everyone to enjoy a lovely lunch with a view. Cranbury Park - Norwalk
Cranbury Park's 227 acres offers a series of wooded trails for walking, hiking, or biking. After your walk, enjoy a family picnic on the manicured lawn of the Gallaher Estate or under the sheltered pavilion. You may also bring your own grill if you are craving a good BBQ.

Cherry Lawn - Darien
I have been known to enjoy a pizza picnic with friends at Cherry Lawn. It’s playgrounds provide the perfect location to burn off a little afternoon steam. The park provides nice shaded areas and benches - plus it is also conveniently located next to the Darien Nature Center.

Lake Mohegan - Fairfield
In the summer months, this park offers a lake for swimming and a sprinkler pad that is perfect for toddlers (or anyone trying to cool off). But, the lake provides a beautiful setting for a picnic almost any time of the year. This park also has a playground, picnic shelter, and restroom faciliites.
