March GoList: Best Things to Do with Long Island Kids This Month

In March, we'll bid farewell to all the winter fun (and cabin fever) we've had and welcome in a new season of family fun and mischief on Long Island.

Start the month by going back in time at Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park for the Camellia Festival, where the flowers are in prime bloom in the greenhouse, and a magician and barbershop quartet set the mood at historic Coe Hall.

Have you already exhausted all the options on Disney+? Greenport Village Cinema is showing family-friendly films every Saturday night in March. So grab some popcorn and enjoy family movie night in style.

Little train lovers will have a blast at the Thomas & Friends interactive exhibit at the LICM, and hero worshippers can meet (and dress up as) their favorite caped crusader at Superhero Day at the Long Island Aquarium.

Faith and Begorrah, we can't forget about St. Patrick's Day! Whether you're of Irish descent or not, everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day. The March calendar is brimming with St. Patrick's Day celebrations to keep you in green all month long.

March GoList: The Best Things to Do in Westchester with Kids

March winds bring not only April showers but also much fun in and around Westchester, with lots to do both indoors and out.

The first half of the month brings the peak of maple-sugaring season, allowing families to join naturalists in tapping maple trees and evaporating this blasé-looking liquid into the sublime sticky stuff we all know and love. Some events—like the Maple Sugaring Party—are loaded with assorted embellishments, including the ultimate pleasure—eating it atop pancakes!

As for holidays, March is also known as Women’s History Month, and we have assorted recognition events on our calendar that are family-focused. March is also replete with celebrations of Purim, including “out of this world fun” at Purim in Outer Space, along with numerous ways to celebrate being Irish (or pretend that you are), like one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in New York. There are numerous hot-ticket alerts for live kid shows, including The Peking Acrobats, and while we await warmer temperatures, indoor highlights include the return of STEM-tastic

Note: The Pout-Pout Fish is now sold out, and if you’re looking for the Annual WHUD Kids Fair, that’s scheduled for April this year.

Grab your calendars and read on for our top things to do with kids this month in Westchester and the Hudson Valley. Also be sure to check out our Event Calendar to be up-to-date on even more of the great goings-on this month!

Grand Isle Resort and Spa in Great Exuma, Bahamas Offers Laid-Back Luxury

Meet nurse sharks during a day trip around the Exumas, a string of islands in the Bahamas.

Spared by the recent hurricane, the Exumas in the Bahamas have become an increasingly popular destination, including among families who are discovering these laid-back island paradises in the Caribbean.

The Exumas are a string of islands and cays in the Bahamas with white sand beaches and turquoise-blue waters. This area of the Bahamas is much less developed than Nassau and Paradise Island, which are popular for attractions like Atlantis. Here you'll find fewer crowds and more natural shorelines.

While celebrities and millionaires build homes on the remote and beautiful string of cays, most families head to Great Exuma or Little Exuma for their vacations. And, as any local will tell you, Grand Isle Resort and Spa is the best resort in Exuma for families.

Visit Rescued Seals and Sea Lions for Free at LA's Marine Mammal Care Center

Who doesn't love California sea lions? Their cute, puppy-like faces turn up periodically at our favorite SoCal beaches, but did you know your kids can visit with seals and sea lions for free, every day of the week, at the Marine Mammal Care Center?

The San Pedro facility is a haven for injured seals and sea lions, where families can make an impact on the rescued animals' rehabilitation—all while educating kids and maybe inspiring a spirit of volunteerism.  The Marine Mammal Care Center has taken in more than 8,000 patients from local beaches in the 27 years it's been open. That includes sea mammals who needed treatment for gunshot wounds, entanglement in fishing nets, and injuries from ocean trash. If you've been to all the local zoos and are looking for a new experience, a visit here could be just the ticket. My daughters and I (all animal lovers) decided to check it out, and we were very touched by what we saw.
