Night at the Museum: 7 NYC Museum and Zoo Sleepovers for Kids

Sleepovers are all the rage—even Governors Island is getting into the overnight game—but while a night of glamping might be on your to-do list, kids will get a big kick out of sleeping over at one of their favorite cultural institutions. From the Bronx Zoo, to the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, there's a sleepover to fit any interest and you'll earn some serious cool parent cred with one of these overnight adventures so extravagant, they landed on our splurge GoList.

As you might have guessed, these NYC-style pajama parties aren't just cool, they can also be expensive, and sometimes tough to get into. So if you want to splurge on an amazing overnight experience for your child this year, book early as spaces fill up fast. Each of our picks includes meals or snacks and requires adult chaperones to take part. Note that some are exclusively for scout groups.

Best Things To Do Presidents Day Weekend: Scots, Lunar New Year & Founding Fathers

This weekend is about more than just the long weekend (though it is a long weekend). This weekend asks us to examine the power of the individual, to do goodto excelto achieve greatness.

Whether your skill is slam dunkingtrick shotting, or sheep herding, whether your area of expertise is geekdom or slime or onomatopoeia, this weekend reminds us that we can all rise up and achieve great things.

On Monday in particular, we look at the American presidency and the power of one individual to impact the lives of so many. LA is lucky to have two presidential libraries in the region, both of which offer up free observances of the holiday. Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you are going to do with your kids on this long weekend.

Weekend Fun for Houston Kids: Lunar New Year, Wiener Dog Races, Feb 17-18

Do you ever have moments when you stop and think about how awesome our city is? Looking ahead to this weekend was definitely one of those times for me. Here we are in the middle of February - a month that practically begs to be spent indoors - and there is still so many diverse, exciting events happening this weekend in Houston. And that is awesome.

This weekend marks the Lunar New Year, and in true Houston fashion, there are no shortage of family-friendly events happening to kick-off the Year of the Dog

We also are gearing up for Rodeo season (only a few weeks now!), and to help get your little ones outfitted in their Western best, we found the best spots to purchase pint-sized rodeo gear.

Lastly, just in case another rainy day is looming ahead, now is a good time to queue up some indoor activities for the kiddos; as an added bonus, these are all free!

Don't forget, our event calendar always features events and activities happening all around town, our February GoList highlights the events happening throughout the month you don't want to miss, and our Top 100 Things to Do With Houston Kids list is always full of extra inspiration. Weekend Fun for Boston Kids: Film Fests, Eagles, and a Birthday; Feb 17-19

Who's ready for a break? For those of us sticking around town this week for a staycation, there are not one but two film festivals geared towards young cinema goers, not to mention a festival celebrating some of the coolest birds found in New England. Learn bread baking techniques, sing along to this popular Disney flick, and catch the mother of all demo derbies.

President's Weekend Fun for CT Kids: Eagles, Art, and Lunarfest, February 18-20

Most of us in Connecticut have at least a three-day weekend ahead and with the vagaries of school break schedules, many of us have quite a few more. Happily, Connecticut is a fabulous place to staycation, plenty of fun awaits around the state. We've got all kinds of ideas to get outside from eagle spotting train rides to a guided nature hike to a festive parade celebrating the lunar new year. If you're feeling more of an indoor vibe, check out the Harlem Globetrotters, a puppetry festival, or museum adventures in BristolRidgefield, and Bridgeport.  And if all this togetherness is too much, there's even a fun drop off workshop at the Noah Webster House, for just a few hours or the whole day.

We update our Events Calendar frequently so be sure to check back for even more great suggestions. To keep up with the latest family-friendly events and activities, sign up for our newsletters, and follow us on FacebookTwitter, Pinterest, and Instagram. Have a fantastic weekend!

Presidents Day Weekend in NYC: Balloons, Lunar Parades, Lego Live

New York City kids are kicking off their February school break with a jam-packed Presidents Day weekend. Chinese Lunar New Year events rev up this weekend with festivals and parades in ManhattanBrooklyn, and Queens, but there's also the lesser-known (but just as festive) Japanese Snow Festival and the Himalayan New Year celebration at the Rubin Museum just for families.

The city marks Presidents Day with family events, such as an oppportunity to meet "President" George Washingtion and First Lady Martha and more historical figures at the New-York Historical Society, as well as the uptown Washington's Birthday Ball. Black history events run throughout the month, and we've flagged this weekend's The Langston Hughes Project concert as a must-see.

But this weekend also boasts the first NYC Lego Live, and some more unusual events to check out like a citywide, FREE Sword Dance Festival and the balloon-filled New York City Ballet atrium at Lincoln Center, an art installation from Jihan Zencirli Geronimo. Plus, The Gruffalo Live opens for little theatergoers, and there are more great shows playing.

Don't miss the kickoff to February break week activities, including Kids Week at the Intrepid and Engineering Week at NYSCI.

We've also got you covered for the rest of the cold-weather season with our Museum and Indoor Play Space Guides. Dave & Buster's Opens Its Second NJ Location in Wayne

Parents looking for a way to beat the mid-winter blues have a new alternative: Dave & Buster's, the family-friendly arcade and sports bar-style restaurant, is celebrating the opening of its second New Jersey location today, February 14! (Family Valentine's Day outing, anyone?)

Providing a fun-filled experience for all ages, this gamer's paradise is located in Wayne's Willowbrook Mall, which recently underwent a multi-million dollar facelift.

Presidents' Day Weekend Fun with Westchester Kids: Circuses, Curling

If you’re staying in town for the three-day weekend, get ready for lots of local fun for families right here in Westchester and the Hudson Valley!

As we reported in our February GoList, the circus is in town! With the recent closing of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, the performance by The Royal Hanneford Circus is that much more special. If clowns aren’t enough ha-ha for you, grab some more giggles at Mr. Pennygaf's Cirkus Sideshow Spectacle. Or, for less comedic entertainment, the kid-adventure film Swallows and Amazons looks promising.

If the Olympics has your family asking, “What’s curling and where do people do that?” then take advantage of the local Curling Open House and skip the flight to Pyeongchang. And since Presidents’ Day is intended to honor our presidents, celebrate accordingly at Washington’s Birthday Celebration.
