One of my favorite ways to spend a Sunday is by getting my family all dressed up and going out for a great brunch.  My husband and children are what you might call "foodies", and giving them the opportunity to pick and choose from a bountiful buffet or design their own omelets (none of which I have to prepare) makes for an enjoyable outing for all of us.  New Jersey is home to tons of great brunch spots, but some of the best brunches in the state are located in our beautiful hotels.  Great customer service, a bountiful menu and beautiful decor make these hotel brunches standouts.  Just in time for Mother's Day, our list features some great hotel brunches throughout the Garden State.  If you are interested in heading into New York City for brunch, check out our post on New York City Hotel Brunches.

Moving from Southeastern Connecticut back to the lower Litchfield County remains an adventure in reliving the past.  Not just the glorious history of this area of the state, but my own.  Having grown up in the area, I've had the very unique opportunity to expose my children to some of my favorite things from my childhood, and beyond.  While on April vacation from school, I planned a trip to one spot every student from the area eventually visits, and one that, for some reason, always stuck with me as one of my favorite, albeit educational, trips I ever took in school.  We ventured to The Glebe House in Woodbury, Connecticut.

Glastonbury, a town located in the Central CT area, is only 20 minutes from Hartford. Thank goodness you don’t have to go all the way to the capitol city to find fun things to do. There are plenty of entertaining options located right in Glastonbury for you to choose from. My daughter and I are big Grace Lin fans. Her storytelling and gorgeous illustrations continually mesmerize us, and we really like that she’s a local author.  Our fandom began when I first read Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, the story of a girl named Minli who, inspired by her father’s fantastical stories, sets out on a journey to change her family’s fortune. With a young, quick-witted heroine and its messages of the value of selflessness and recognizing one's own good fortune, I knew it would be the perfect family read-aloud.

When I heard about the stage adaptation of Where the Mountain Meets the Moon playing at the Wheelock Family Theatre, I imagined how beautifully the lyrical writing would translate to script and the ways a theatrical performance would bring the magic of the story to life.  Keep reading to find out if the production measured up, plus five highlights and five things to be aware of before taking your kids to the show.

Founded in 1857, the historic town of Cape May is known as the nation's oldest seaside resort. Travelers from all over the world flock to Cape May in the summer months. However, this charming little Jersey Shore town is not just a summer destination.

It's been a quiet week on all the Mommy Poppins sites as we spend quality time with our kids over spring break. I can't say it's been mellow though—my daughter and I have been running all over town trying to pack as much fun as possible into our NYC staycation! So far we've gone on the hunt for giant Fabergé designer eggs, strolled a section of the High Line (where a musician mistook us for tourists!), gawked at outrageous costume jewelry and 3D printing at the Museum of Arts and Design, saw Atlantic for Kids' fabulous new musical Mr. Chickee's Funny Money, played with snow (yes it really snowed on Tuesday) and romped at our favorite neighborhood playground. And we still have five days left to go, only Sunday is spoken for since we never miss the awesome Easter Bonnet Parade.

Easter of course is the big event this weekend and egg hunts abound in NYC and beyond. If you're looking for a quick seasonal getaway, consider going on an egg hunt and then hitting a Destination Playground on Long Island, taking a train ride with the Easter Bunny in New Jersey, or picking your own fruits and veggies in Westchester.

The Easter Bunny kicks into high gear this weekend, bringing eggs to Cambridge, Stoneham, Roslindale, and Boston. With so many eggs hidden in the Greater Boston area, kids will be hard pressed not to find at least one!  Parents who are feeling nostalgic can bring their kids to the Brattle Theater for double features of classic anime (Spirited Away and My Neighbor Tortoro) or Jim Henson Fantasy (Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal). And for those who seek a more hands-on fantastical experience, visit the fairy gardens at Roger Williams Park Botanical Center.
