This weekend is also the launch of super sweet interactive exhibit Candytopia in West Houston.

In case you missed it, we have had a lot of fun posts pop up on Mommy Poppins recently that are packed with fun summer ideas:

Father's Day Weekend Fun: Lower East Side Fest, Juneteenth, Adventures NYC, Pollinators

Happy Father's Day!

There are as many ways to celebrate Father's Day in New York City this weekend in NYC as there are reasons to love Dad (fishing clinics, tugboat rides, foraging in Inwood, and the Papa Is Always Right concert, just as a few examples). But if it's homemade gifts he's craving (what dad can resist?), you can't go wrong with a hand-made car, right? Kids can also head over to the Children's Museum of Manhattan to create goodies featuring that dad-friendliest of materials, duct tape.

This weekend's top family-friendly festival event picks include the rollicking Egg Rolls, Egg Creams, and Empanadas Fest on the LES; the annual Adventures NYC festival in Central Park, with activities from zip lining to rock climbing; and the Rockaways' Rockstock and Barrels Fest, for surf lovers. All are FREE. The Bronx hosts Pollinator's Weekend at Wave Hill and the 16th Annual Hunts Point Fish Parade and Festival. On Saturday, visit Washington Market Park to release thousands of ladybugs!

Head to the Brooklyn Museum for the Bring the Cool Family Festival, or celebrate Juneteenth in Gershwin Park. And last, but never least, head to Snug Harbor for its annual Big Picnic celebration.

If the weather holds this weekend, check out our guide to the best beaches, lakes, sprinklers, and water parks for some fun water play. And don't forget to check our June GoList and calendar!

Father's Day Weekend Events: Strawberry Fests, Summer Fairs

On Father's Day weekend, the peak of the strawberry harvest, the Mattituck Lions Club brings its annual Strawberry Festival to the North Fork, while the Historical Society of the Massapequas brings one to Nassau County. Dads get FREE admission to the Harbes Family Farm in Mattituck this weekend, too.

Celebrate Flag Day by exploring the meaning behind signal flags that ships used to communicate to each other at The Whaling Museum in Cold Spring Harbor.

Father's Day Weekend Fun for Westchester Kids

It’s time for Dad’s special day, and we’ve combed Westchester and the Hudson Valley to find the best ways for families to honor the important men in their lives.

The big headliner of the weekend is the Clearwater Great Hudson River Revival, a two-day, grand-scale festival celebrating environmental protection with a vast and impressive lineup of music, exhibitions, assorted entertainment, an instrument “petting zoo,” wholesome food, and more. This is just one of several summer festivals taking place this weekend; others include the Yonkers Ukrainian Heritage Festival.

Another highlight is Caramoor's Hot Jazz Age Frolic, which begins with a family-targeted program and includes dance instruction. If Dad loves sports, head to the stands of the Speical Olympics and cheer on the many spirited athletes assembled from throughout the state.

Read on for all of our top picks, and check out our Event Calendar for even more options to choose from. Our June GoList can help you plan the remainder of the month, and signing up for our FREE weekly newsletters keeps you in the know!

Have a very happy Father’s Day!

Great Day Trips to New Jersey State Parks and Forests

While most non-residents don't equate New Jersey with beautiful green spaces, there are a whopping 36 state parks and 13 state forests to explore in NJ—and at least one of them should be on your summer fun to-do list.

We've picked nine destinations that are perfect for a fun-filled day trip, where hiking, biking, swimming, and boating are just some of the fun outdoor activities to enjoy. Add acres of gorgeous scenery and some wildlife-spotting, and NJ state parks and forests make for an ideal day of family fun in the fresh air.

Sip—and play!

Build-A-Bear Has a New Pay-Your-Age Contest, without the Lines

Making a puffy, fuzzy DIY toy at Build-A-Bear is a great experience, especially for a birthday gift, but those bears are far from free. So it was no surprise last year that the company's big Pay-Your-Age Day (5 years old, get any toy for $5) resulted in lines not only out of the stores but out of the buildings—and lots of angry parents when lines were shut down. The good news? Build-A-Bear is doing the popular event again, but doing it differently this year.
