Tickled Pink! See the Playful New Art Popping Up in Flatiron Beginning Today

Just when it seems the dreariness of winter has taken hold of the city, along comes a pop of playfulness and color gracing the rooftops and plazas of the Flatiron District and NoMad neighborhoods.

Mr. Pink lands in the district today, bringing a FREE public art trail of 10 illuminated inflatable sculptures from French artist Philippe Katerine to the area. The naked, cartoon-like, bubblegum-pink sculptures range from 9-16 feet tall, creating a whimsical, snapshot-worthy moment for visitors and encouraging passersby to linger and discover all the fun in the neighborhood.

Read on for more details on where to find these whimsical installations, which remain on display through the end of February.

When you think of New York's Chinatown, you're probably thinking of the one on Canal Street in Manhattan. But one of the best NYC Chinatowns to visit with kids can be found in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, which stretches down 8th Avenue from roughly 40th to 65th Streets. There are plenty of things to do and eat with kids in this corner of Sunset Park's Chinatown, making it worth a visit for families.

Summer internships can make your average, high-achieving, New York City kid really stand out from the rest of the equally high-achieving pack when it's time to apply to college. In an era when applications have become increasingly competitive—leaving schools to look for more than good grades, great test scores, an outstanding essay, and a list of after-school activities—these summer internships in NYC offer kids hands-on, real-world experience, and some even include leadership opportunities.

NYC summer internships come in various forms, paid and unpaid, regular and intermittent, educational and creative, with some also offering school or volunteer credit. The primary thing teen summer internships in NYC tend to have in common is that the application due dates are usually long before most teens have started thinking about their summer—or college—plans.

To make sure your teens don’t miss out on any opportunities, we've rounded up 17 great summer internships in NYC for teens. Most are accepting applications now. Find more teen-friendly happenings in our Teen Guide to NYC.

20 Best Kids' Indoor Playgrounds and Play Spaces in Suffolk County

Kids will burn off all their energy running, jumping, and sliding through the Jetsetters Kids Club. Photo by Gina Massaro

The best indoor playgrounds and indoor play spaces in Suffolk County range from trampoline parks to play cafes to creative centers and museums. Many family fun zones are packed with action sports and ninja courses, best suited for bigger kids.

While unique, smaller play spaces are perfect for entertaining toddlers and preschoolers. We personally love Xplore Commack since it has great attractions for my newly walking toddler and my two elementary schoolers. Plus, there are sightlines to all play equipment wherever I stand.

Here's a guide for fellow parents where kids can jump into the action and burn off some of their endless energy in any weather. Many kids' indoor playgrounds double as party spaces, so call ahead for the public play times and pricing. Many locations do not allow shoes or bare feet, even for adults, so wear socks.

Read ahead for our top picks to plan your next indoor playground adventure. Also, check out our list of indoor playgrounds in Nassau County and our Guide to Winter Activities on Long Island for more ideas.
