Free things to do in January are perfect for Connecticut families after a busy (and probably expensive!) holiday season. There's plenty of time left to see the Holiday Lights Spectacular at Olde Mystic Village and the Festival of Silver Lights at Hubbard Park in Meriden. But if you are ready to move on to New Year's fun, try a First Day Hike at Fort Griswold. Winnie the Pooh fans will the Hunny Pot Glitter Slime Workshop. And January 2024 brings plenty of chances for Bald Eagle Viewing at Shepaug Dam.
These are just a few of our favorite things to do in Connecticut this January—we're adding more events to the Connecticut Events Calendar every day.

Is the Children's Museum in West Hartford worth a visit? Yes! Imagine a museum where you and your toddler or preschooler could spend the morning exploring chemistry, geology, entomology, and more. Where all the displays are immersive, interactive, and STEAM-based. Best of all, the exhibits at the Children's Museum are hands-on.

Looking for the best things to do in Connecticut this Christmas weekend? Here are some family-friendly events and activities to add to your list for the holiday weekend.
The kids are off from school starting this weekend, and even though it's Christmas weekend, there is still a calendar-full of fun events to squeeze in before the big day. If you like ice skating (or want to try it with the family) there are several places offering public skate this weekend from Westport to Stamford. But if you'd rather leave it to the professionals, Disney on Ice: Find Your Hero is sliding into Bridgeport. For all those Buddy fans, stop in to see Elf! The Movie @ Merry Movie Night or experience Elf in Concert with the Hartford Symphony. If you still haven't seen Saint Nick in person, this is your last change to see Shark-Diving Santa at the Maritime Aquarium.
