Kids Craft: Making New Year's Crackers
Crackers are decorated tubes that can be filled with candy, confetti, trinkets, toys, or games. Recipients of the cracker pull at the ends to reveal the surprise. Traditionally a part of the Christmas celebration in the UK, crackers are perfect for adding some pop to New Year's parties, especially if you are celebrating at 8pm. And they couldn't be easier to make. These have a special New Year's twist, and you probably have everything you need right in your home already.

The crackers are decorated with recycled scraps of wrapping paper. You can use leftover ribbons, bows, and cut up holiday cards to decorate them as well. Since New Year's is all about resolutions, we filled our crackers with a rolled up piece of paper that says "In 2015 . . " and a crayon. Guests can write or draw something that they hope will come true during the year.
Materials:
Recycled Toilet Paper or Other Tubes
Wrapping Paper Scraps
String or Ribbon
Scissors
Tape
1. Using the scissors cut the wrapping paper about five inches longer than the cardboard tube.
2. Place the cardboard tube in the center of the wrapping paper and roll it around until the tube is covered. Secure the wrapping paper with a piece of tape.
3. Tie one end of the cracker with string. Fill the cracker with your collected materials and tie the other end of the cracker with string.
