Do your kids love watching Night at the Museum? If so, they can enjoy the experience first-hand at five Long Island museums. While most are geared towards the Boys and Girls Scouts, there are opportunities for any child to participate with a parent. We spent the first afternoon of February vacation doing the same thing many families are doing this week: Watching The LEGO Movie. Although I love LEGO, my expectations for the movie were fairly low. I mean, we’re paying to see a really long toy commercial, right? So I was surprised that we were entertained, amused, and even awed by the film. We chose The LEGO Movie over seeing Frozen in the theater, and I don’t have any regrets. However, I think we were the right audience for The LEGO Movie, and not everyone fits into that category. In fact, as we walked out of the theater, we heard one mom say, “That was the longest hour and 40 minutes of my life.” Read on for all you need to know to determine which category your family fits into.

Friendship bracelets are, along with being a kid’s method of choice for showing your love to friends, incredibly diverse. There are macramé bracelets that are more complicated than ordering at Starbucks. Lanyards bracelets that take hours upon hours to finish.
Don’t get me wrong, every type of bracelet has a time and a place; sometimes you just need to chill on the couch and knot some string into a super cool bracelet...for hours. But, little kids who don't have the patience or finger dexterity for more complicated bracelets have friends too; and these beaded yarn bracelets are the perfect way for them to get in on the friendship bracelet action.

Winter is the season for sledding, skiing and summer camp stress. There are so many unique and enriching programs to choose from in NYC, it's difficult to know where to send your child for the best summer experience, especially when there are new programs popping up every year.

Having a kids' tie dye party is lots of fun, but, admittedly, it can make a bit of a mess. This short-cut tie dye technique not only makes designing tee shirts fun and easy, but adds an element of science for kids to learn. We all think of Sharpie markers as permanent, but this technique uses a solvent (rubbing alcohol) to move the color molecules to make pretty tie dye designs.

At the 2006 games, 15 year old Valentina Bettarini broke world records by being the youngest Olympic hockey player, male or female, that the sport had ever seen. That means that today's 7 year olds already have a shot at Olympic gold in the 2022 competition. Set them on the right course early with a good ice hockey program.
