Exploring the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center

The Houston Arboretum and Nature Center is a tranquil escape in the middle of Houston's busy Galleria area. The 185-acre nature sanctuary has two entrances, one on 610 at the Woodway exit and another on Woodway Drive. It is the perfect place to take kids of all ages to get exercise on more than five miles of walking trails and to see animals along the way.

Top Indoor Play Spaces for Toddlers and Preschoolers in Westchester

Tig & Peach in Pelham offers lots of indoor fun for kids 6 and under.

There are some great playgrounds in Westchester specifically for toddlers and preschoolers, but when the weather is less than ideal for outdoor fun, there are a number of indoor play spaces that offer a chance for this age group to jump on trampolines, listen to music, make art, and even take a STEM class!

Here, we've rounded up a few of our favorites across Westchester, with opportunities for drop-in play as well as monthly memberships and more.

St. Patrick's Day Events and Free Parades for Kids on Long Island

From Rockville Centre to Montauk, from the first weekend of March till the last, Main Streets across the Island come alive with pipers, parade marchers, traditional food, music, dance, and more. Huntington itself swells with visitors on the second Sunday of March when one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day gatherings in New York State kicks off in the village downtown. That Huntington parade is dwarfed perhaps only by New York’s City’s celebration, which this year is Tuesday, March 17.

Visiting CocoCay, Royal Caribbean's Private Bahamas Isle, with Kids

Cruise to Perfect Day CocoCay, a private Bahamas island. Photo courtesy of the Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean recently debuted a massive renovation (and renaming) of its private CocoCay Bahamas island. The brand-new "Perfect Day at CocoCay" Caribbean destination now offers three beach areas, a stunning freshwater pool, a helium balloon ride — and what's billed as the water park with the tallest slide in North America. New dining areas, more water sports, zip lines, and additional updates were added to the refresh.

I was invited on the Royal Caribbean cruise out of Fort Lauderdale to see the 125-acre upgrades, including brand-new "floating" cabanas that debuted in January 2020. Read on for what to do at Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas, how to get there, and what it might cost your family.

8 Connecticut Libraries With Great Play Spaces for Kids

A spacious open area provides room for play or presentations in Farmington. Photo courtesy of Farmington Libraries

Libraries are a great place to snuggle up with a book or listen to a good story, but for many families with young kids, they are also a destination for kids to socialize and get some energy out. We're grateful to these amazing public libraries in Connecticut that have recognized this need and created beautiful, free play spaces where toddlers, preschoolers, and young elementary school children can explore toys and interact with peers in between perusing books.

For more play zones that don't require a fee, see our post on Best Free Indoor Play Places for Connecticut Kids. Our guide to Connecticut Indoor Play Spaces highlights even more spots where kids can tinker, imagine, jump, climb, and run when the weather is wet or cold.

Daniel Tiger, Baby Shark, and More Kids' Shows in and Near Westchester this Spring

Westchester and the Hudson Valley will play host to a considerable number of family-friendly performances over the next couple months, from page-to-stage musicals to circus acts, from marionette theater to musical concerts. Several shows will feature popular kids' characters, including Daniel Tiger, Scooby-Doo, Baby Shark, Judy Moody, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar—and we know how excited kids can get to see these "friends" come to life onstage.

We think parents will enjoy many of these, too!

Read on and click through to get the scoop. Some shows sell out well in advance, and we don’t want you to miss out! Also, purchasing tickets early allows for choice seats that allow little ones the best view.
