I always tell my son that the Big Apple Circus is special because it's our circus. We're New Yorkers after all, and this is our own homegrown troupe. It's one of my family's annual traditions to see the company's new show at Lincoln Center right when it opens every fall. And that's just what we did with Big Apple Circus: Metamorphosis, which recently debuted under the big top in Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park.
While the theme is a bit elusive and the show is smaller in scope than last year's breathtaking Luminocity, Metamorphosis still features many jaw-dropping sequences, including gasp-inducing contortion, balancing and quick-change routines. There are also some fun audience participation bits with this year's clown, Francesco. You never know who he'll call into the ring... my nine-year-old son certainly didn't expect to get picked and then suddenly, there he was onstage. But even if no one in your family gets a shot at the spotlight, Big Apple Circus: Metamorphosis has such an engaging and intimate vibe, you feel like you're part of the action no matter where you're sitting. Plus, new this year, there's a great deal for families with young children: special shorter performances on select Wednesdays when tickets are buy-one-get-one FREE.
