Yesterday we posted an easy way to decorate Easter eggs without a big mess. Today we've got another one:

The first time my now 9-year old son decorated Easter Eggs he couldn't manage to retrieve them from the dye using the little metal dipper that came in the packaged egg dyeing kits. Against my mother's advice, I let him scoop the eggs out of the liquid color with his fingers. Resulting in a basketful of lovely eggs for Easter and a toddler with dye stained hands for two weeks.

The following year we tried this easy tie dye method using a colander and regular old food coloring. The technique is fun, quick and simple enough for a toddler to achieve incredible looking eggs without having to submerge them in messy liquid dye. We still decorate our Easter Eggs this way even though my son mastered the egg dipper a long time ago.

I have to admit that prior to this exhibit, most of what I knew about the prehistoric pterosaurs (and it wasn't much) I had learned from watching Dinosaur Train with my kids. But now that we've explored the American Natural History Museum's brand-new, interactive installation Pterosaurs: Flight In the Age of Dinosaurs, I totally get why my preschool-age son is obsessed with these amazing flying creatures.

Walking in I assumed that the pterosaur was a type of dinosaur. Wrong. Turns out they were dinos' flying reptilian cousins, and the only vertebrates to develop the ability to soar besides birds and bats. There were more than 150 different species of pterosaurs, some with wingspans of up to 33 feet, making it the largest flying creature that has ever existed! Appropriately, the AMNH's exhibit is the largest pterosaur display ever mounted in the U.S., and features rare fossils and casts, awesome models, and lots of hands-on stations where kids can get a sense of what life was like for these creatures.

Eastchester might be a small town, but when it comes to entertaining kids and families, this town has a lot to offer! Eastchester's roots date back to a group of ten families that migrated to the area back in 1664 from Fairfield, CT. Now home to over 33,000 residents (including the town's two villages, Tuckahoe and Bronxville), this year marks Eastchester's 350th anniversary!  

Eastchester and its villages offer award winning school districts, beautiful homes and apartment complexes and a town-owned country club, Lake Isle, a true gem and huge draw for many residents (including myself). I've never been much of a clown lover--but then I'd never met a cool, laid-back clown with a gift for glorious and crazy air-filled creations. Meet Archie Cobblepot, professional clown, balloon artist and self-proclaimed nincompoop. I hired Archie as part of a whole slate of activities for my 7-year old son's birthday party, and needn't have bothered with anything else--Archie and his balloons were the star of the show, for both the kids and their impressed parents.
