From the solar eclipse to spring festivals, these are the best things to do on Long Island this April.

Welcome spring with a trip to opening weekend at Old Westbury Gardens, where you can revel in nature in the stunning formal gardens. Or, you and your fam can stomp into the first weekend of the month with Dinosaur Daze at the Garvies Point Museum.

This month also brings an awesome solar eclipse, and venues with viewing parties include the Long Island Explorium, which will have special viewing glasses on hand. You can also close out April with a free Earth Day celebration at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge.

Signs of spring are popping up everywhere this April, and you can revel in the season at festivals like the Kites at the Pier in Long Branch, in which a dazzling display of giant kites is visible for miles. Or, admire the flowering trees and enjoy family-friendly events during the Essex County Cherry Blossom Festival, which is held over two consecutive weekends.

This month also includes some great Earth Day festivals, including one in Cape May where the theme is "Planet vs. Plastics."

Plus, the sun (partially) disappears, which you can safely view at a Solar Eclipse Party at Cal Tech. The sun returns and leaves us fully illuminated to celebrate Earth Day at Heal The Bay. Things get really wild with the opening of the Skirball's newest exhibit, showcasing the art of Maurice Sendak.
