Best Facebook Pages for Special Needs Families

What do you like most about Facebook?  Reconnecting with friends you haven’t seen in years, the ability to spy on your old boyfriend’s wall (not that I ever did that or anything), or that browsing through Facebook can give you access to so much information? As a mommy of two special needs children, Facebook has become a wonderful source of info and resources. Many of the following FB pages also have corresponding websites, however, “liking” them will result in the information being sent directly to you, instead of you having to visit all the websites to obtain it.

This Week: February Break Travel Deals, Chinese Lunar New Year Celebrations, Maple Sugaring on Long Island, Mommy Poppins Is Hiring

Well, at least the snow looks pretty. That's what I keep telling myself as my daughter and I try to navigate slushy corners and slippery curbs. We're hoping for a snow-free (or at least ice-free) February break when we'll finally have enough free time to check out all of the cool museum exhibits, children's film festivals and family theater shows we've been writing about.

If you just can't take winter anymore and need to get out of town, our Travel site has a roundup of last-minute February break getaway deals including Disney, the Berkshires and ski resorts. Don't want to stray so far? You'll find lots of day trip inspiration on our tri-state area sites, like maple sugaring on Long Island, great small towns to explore in New Jersey and 100 things to do with kids in Westchester.

Here's what else we covered on the NYC site this week:

Best Things To Do This Weekend with LA Kids: SpongeBob, Children's Grammy, & Chocolate Feb 7 - 8

Okay, Mamas, this is the weekend you've got to get your kids started. If they're going to give you an awesome Valentine's (that is how it's supposed to go, right?), they'd better get a move on. Luckily, there are plenty of heart-warming workshops to get creative juices flowing.

Of course, you may need to remind them of just what a wonderful mama you are. You know, the kind that takes them to see The Spongebob Movie on opening weekend. (Not their cup of tea? There's also Tinker Bell, and Big Hero 6, and even The Phantom Tollbooth...) You can send them on a train ride to the Mesozoic, or to a Monster Jam mashup, or to a birthday party for a lion. And you can give your kid the greatest gift of all: license to talk about the gas giant Uranus without getting in trouble.

Weekend Fun for Philly Kids Feb 7/8: Winter Wonderland, WinterFest and Valentine Fun

In comparison to last year's winter, the Delaware Valley is definitely lacking the white stuff. Kids want to build snow forts, make snow angels and have snowball fights. So, if winter is your favorite time of year, take the family to one of the winter events happening this weekend that don't require snow.

Wagner Free Institute of Science's Winter Wonderland and Briar Bush Nature Center's WinterFest both offer seasonal crafts, games and activities for families. For true nature lovers, the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education's Animal Tracking & Survival program shows visitors how animals survive during the cold winter months. In addition, Black Rock Sanctuary hosts its Winter Wildflower Walk so guests explore the landscape for different types of foliage and learn about their life cycles.

Despite the fact it is February,  spring consignment sales are gearing up. Many moms love the rush of finding clothing, toys and baby equipment at deeply discounted prices. For the latest information on sales throughout the Delaware Valley, visit our Kids' Consignment Sales page. Information is constantly being updated.
