Welcome to Our New Site: Mommy Poppins Travel!

MommyPoppins has been sharing our expertise on the best things to do in the New York City area since January of 2007. We currently have destination sites for NYC, Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut, Boston and Los Angeles. Each one brings the unique Mommy Poppins take on exploring their area with kids.

Now we're taking the special Mommy Poppins stripe of coverage global and expanding our travel coverage to bring you family vacation information from wherever our own travels bring us. Just like all our other Mommy Poppins coverage, all our reviews will be written by moms (or dads) who have been-there, done-that and can share down to earth family travel advice. Our mission is to help you discover exceptional experiences and magical vacation memories.

Weekly Wrap Up: St. Patrick's Day Celebrations for NYC Kids, Ways to Ring in Spring, Best New NYC Summer Camps

We've been hitting the park every day after school this week, as you can see from our photo. The city really comes alive in spring and it's always thrilling to experience. You can celebrate the new season at home by reading books about nature, and then head out to one of NYC's Destination Playgrounds or the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, where the cherry blossoms are already starting to bloom. There's also a cool Cherry Blossoms: Japan Fest at the American Museum of Natural History Museum this Saturday.

Spring fever is hitting our regional sites as well. Our New Jersey site is already looking ahead to Easter with an awesome Easter Bunny Train Ride giveaway. And even though the Philadelphia International Flower Show has ended, you can head up to Massachusetts for the Boston Flower & Garden Show, which is on view through Sunday. Of course St. Patrick's Day is the main event this weekend, and we've got roundups of genuinely kid-friendly celebrations all over the tri-state area, including NYC, NJ, Long Island and Connecticut.

If you want to stay on top of everything that's going on in New Jersey, Long Island, Connecticut, Boston or Los Angeles, you can subscribe to our free newsletters. Read on for everything we covered on Mommy Poppins NYC this week.

Free and Fun Things to Do this Weekend with NYC Kids: St. Patrick's Day, Cherry Blossoms Fest, Passover Fun March 17-18

Saturday is St. Patrick’s Day and while we realize the big parade on Fifth Avenue isn't for everyone, there are plenty of family-friendly celebrations, like Park Slope's intimate parade and the Irish Arts Center's annual open house. This is also a great weekend for young theater lovers, with stage adaptations of popular kid-lit series Nate the Great and The Magic School Bus, and the zany, sideshow-like antics of Stunt Lab.

Of course the gorgeous weather means you may want to celebrate spring by visiting one of our city's amazing parks and playgrounds. But you can't play outside all day: Bring the party inside by hitting the American Natural History Museum's fun-packed Cherry Blossom Festival.

These are just a few of the great things going on this weekend. All of our best bets are below. You can find additional options in our Event Calendar.
