Tutor Time Camps

0

Every child is unique at Tutor Time! At Tutor Time, every child’s individuality is used to his or her advantage in the way they learn, grow, build self-esteem, and develop their imagination. The result is fruitful hands-on learning and confident self-expression. The Tutor Time curriculum was inspired by developmental psychologist Howard Gardner and his theory of multiple intelligences. Gardner believe intelligences are the ways each of us perceives and understand the world as we encounter problems and formulate solutions. His theory has led to an approach of nurturing and teaching children focused on individual needs and strengths. By providing a variety of experiences that foster each and every intelligence, children become more adept in many areas. Tutor Time teaching strategies are designed to maximize the full development of each child and recognize how they learn different subjects in different ways utilizing their intelligences, or what we refer to as “Smarts”.

The Nature Place Day Camp

0

Camp at The Nature Place is about being in and connecting with the natural world: nature explorations, cooperative games, hiking, earth art, swimming lessons, mucking in the stream, camping, canoeing, climbing, farming and gardening, meeting animals, storytelling, music, archery, drama, and more. Connecting with others and establishing a healthy sense of self through outdoor play, challenge, and learning lays the foundation for a life filled with wonder, flexibility, perseverance, and gratitude.

Being non-competitive means that activities and games focus on cooperation, teamwork, communication, and collaboration. The full camp program offers abundant physical activity without being centered around competitive athletics. Unplugged and media-free since 1985, camp does not have vending machines, movie screenings, video games, awards, color wars, or pressured daily schedules. In an increasingly digitized world, The Nature Place fosters children’s confidence to connect in person.

Harbor Haven Day Camp

0

Harbor Haven was created in 1996 to provide children with mild special needs the opportunity to experience the magic of summer camp with the supports they need. Today, Harbor Haven is 7 weeks of summer fun for many campers across northern New Jersey. Within the fun and exciting environment of camp, the primary purpose is to support each camper in the areas of: social and group skills, language/communication, behavior, academics, and fine/gross motor skills. Harbor Haven wants each child to experience success, thereby building confidence and positive self-esteem. With smaller staff to camper ratios, structured activities, and trained staff, campers thrive! Harbor Haven incorporates many traditional camp activities (swimming, athletics, art, music, nature, etc.) and adapts them to meet the needs of the campers.

The programing that makes Harbor Haven unique is its incorporation of speech therapy, occupational thereapy, social/emotional skill teaching, and academic maintenance support. 3-5 year old campers participate in the Bright Beginners program which can be a full or mini day. 6-15 year old campers participate in the general camp program. 16-18 year old campers participate in the LIFE program. The LIFE program is similar to the general camp program but incorporates lessons on life and job skills. The experience and memories gained from a summer at Harbor Haven are incomparable and last a lifetime.
