Frelinghuysen Arboretum's "Branching Out" Camp
Submitted by Katia on
Want an active, green, fun camp experience for your child this summer? “Branching Out!” is a gardening program for young people between the ages of 5 and 13. For 43 years we have been sharing the joy and adventure of gardening with children.
The children’s BO is located on the grounds of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum, a regional center for horticulture filled with theme gardens and nature trails, all of which your child will come to know. Spring session campers meet weekly on Saturdays to prepare the soil and plant their own garden plots. Just like real farmers, children must care for and be committed to maintain and harvest their vegetables, herbs and flowers. Summer session campers meet twice weekly in July and August.
The summer session also offers many imaginative, hands-on garden related activities and outdoor lessons on trees, insects and plants. Be prepared to get dirty! Gardeners participate in a variety of projects utilizing plants they have grown themselves including cooking and eating!
Campers may register for the Full Season program (Spring & Summer) or for only the Spring or only the Summer Session. The fee includes use of the garden plot, all the needed tools, seeds, transplants, craft supplies, and instruction for the various projects. Financial assistance based on family need is available.
