Weekday Picks for Westchester Kids: School Break, New Year's, Dec. 28-Jan.1

With Christmas now behind us, many Westchester families can use a breather! But New Year’s is coming, and school is out all week, so we’re making sure you have plenty of options from which to choose to keep the fun going. Because many of us have already spent a small fortune on the holidays, we’re emphasizing FREE activities to go easy on your wallet.

Entertainment abounds with programs such as the two Mr. Bungles workshops, where kids learn how to perform magic tricks and make balloon figures. More fun instruction can be had at Pop Culture POP Art, where comic books and canvas are two of the materials used to create art in the style of the 1960s movement. As for New Year’s, it would be hard to top the excitement at Ring in the New Year at Noon, which simulates Times Square (minus the madness) with a countdown and balloon drop at the respectable hour of 12pm, plus family activities and more.

Weekend Events for Boston Kids: Ice Skating, Museums, and Holiday Fun, December 26-27

While I love to relax at home with my family during the holidays, it's also the perfect time of year to get out and enjoy the city with kids. One of my family's favorite winter activities is ice skating, so we'll definitely be hitting the Frog Pond, but I had so much fun putting together our list of things to do during vacation week that several other activities have also found their way onto my calendar. I cannot wait for this sing-along going on this weekend. Other winning picks include everything from a storybook walk to some cool activities at the MFA and the EcoTarium. If that's not enough, the must-see Pixar exihibit is in its final days at the Museum of Science; we'll be finding a way to squeeze in a second visit. Finally, holiday light displays and shows are wrapping up as well, so load up the family and catch them while you can.
