HoneyTree Forest School

0

HoneyTree Forest is a Waldorf-inspired, seasonal forest program. During the Fall (Sept-Nov), HTF is held in Prospect Park. In Winter (Dec-Feb), we operate from our Homebase w/backyard in Bedstuy. Spring (March-May) is a mix of indoor/outdoor depending on weather. During the warmer months, drop-off and pick-up happens at Prospect Park in The Nethermead.

Our program centers imaginative and productive-play. Using the principles of the Steiner educational philosophy, simple, natural materials and environments are provided, leaving space for the children to creatively discover play together. Critical age-appropriate developmental skills are encouraged by our Lead Teacher and Program Director Ms. Tamar’s extensive 20-year career in the field.

We use nature as our curriculum, adapting the fascinating aspects of the natural world and its processes to engage ages 2.8-5.5 years . Each day in the park, we create a unique campsite with hammocks and slacklines. Physically rigorous play is encouraged. The children sleep in appropriately-sized hammocks hung with the help of the teachers in ‘Magic Plateau’, a safe and quiet tree-filled ridge near The Nethermead. When at Homebase, handiwork, baking projects, and backyard play encourage the development of fine motor skills."
