0

Summer STEAM is a multifaceted, child-centered summer program on the Shady Hill School campus. It features hands-on, project-based science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Students are encouraged to be curious about the world around them, question the limits of their knowledge, and identify and solve real-world problems.

Throughout their time on campus, students will:

  • Explore the world around them and think critically about what they see, know, and understand.
  • Connect and collaborate with friends as they work together to problem-solve and have fun.
  • Create new knowledge and show that learning through a variety interactive, innovative ways.

Each week has a unique theme that defines the learning and exploration. These themes, along with a schedule and more information, can be found on the school's website.

Camp Henry gives kids ages 5 to 13 a summer of fun and learning at Henry Street Settlement on the Lower East Side. Campers engage in educational enrichment activities to prevent summer learning loss, including STEAM projects and literacy lessons, plus arts and crafts, music, drama, sports, visits to parks, twice-weekly swimming, and field trips.

This year’s theme is Legends, Heroes, and Heroines. Each week a different superhero will be highlighted, and campers learn about and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of these fictitious figures. This journey explores not only superpowers and ancient mythology but also community-building, self-efficacy, and positive decision making. Campers enjoy weekly films, field trips, and theme-based parties. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are included.
