Karate-Do Ken Wa Kan

0

Karate training at Ken Wa Kan is leadership training. Shihan Michelle and her team of Sensei have been providing expert quality martial arts training for young people in Greenwich Village, Manhattan since 1998. Ken Wa Kan does not teach kid’s karate—they teach karate to kids—and they are really good at it.

Ken Wa Kan's programs are specifically designed to engage and develop children beginning at age three in the underlying developmental movement patterns essential to successfully acquiring new skills and techniques. At age 6 children enter the Junior Basic program which qualifies them for the premier Junior Black Belt Course. Ken Wa Kan combines traditional Japanese karate with skill building games and exercises that are lively, challenging and fun.

Beginning with their first class, students at Kenwakan are encouraged to be focused and aware of themselves and their environment, be kind and respectful to others and ultimately, be responsible, confident and empowering leaders in the world. The skills acquired in earning a Black Belt at Kenwakan serve them for the rest of their lives. The fundamental movement skills and practices that they develop while training with Ken Wa Kan in the basic program and beyond are immediately applicable and relevant in their everyday lives. Whether they choose the long term commitment of a Black Belt (4-7 years) or the short term commitment of our 6-month basic program, they benefit from the disciplined, challenging and nurturing environment that Ken Wa Kan's programs and community offer.
