Take your skills to the next level in a Glee Club or Rock Band. B2R offers opportunities for students to perform in venues around Bergen County.

B2R believes that:

  • Learning to play music should be fun. It's called 'play' for a reason.
  • Students feel motivated by playing with their peers.
  • A student's individual music instruction should be supplemented by jam sessions and playing in a band.
  • Like a sports team, a band builds teamwork, develops social skills, fosters self-esteem, promotes peer recognition, and leads to lasting friendships.
  • Students learn faster playing music they like, whether it’s Rock or Bach, and the technical foundation is the same.
  • Students are motivated to learn when they see early results and have an exciting, achievable goal.
  • Introducing toddlers and very young children to music instruction, rhythm, and motion supports cognitive development, learning, and motor skills.

B2R offers a unique method of instruction. The school bases its method of music instruction on the knowledge that students learn best when they play the music they enjoy most. That’s why B2R teachers use special arrangements of today's music to help students become proficient instrumentalists or vocalists as well as seasoned performers. At B2R Music, individual music instruction is combined with band instruction that leads to regularly scheduled public performances, "Battles of the Bands," and recording sessions in a professional sound studio.

By combining musical basics with rigorous performance standards, B2R enables students young and old to play together in bands, using a repertoire built upon the hit music of their generation.

The Knight School Houston

The Knight School Summer Chess Camp has a fun and friendly spirit and is a great way to keep the brain sharp during the summer while having a real blast.

Chess Camp is a super-fun, high-energy chess experience in which kids celebrate a new chess tactic each day with silly videos, music-driven puzzlers for prizes, colorful silicone Tactixbands, funny movies, and chess clock tourneys. Laughter, fast-clocks, and compelling teaching approaches make this camp the summer's highlight for the current hundreds of kids who make up the awesome network of The Knight School's nationwide chess teams.

The Knight School chess camps are a great way to sprinkle a little intellectual stimulation into every summer. TKS is basically a summer chess club for kids, but one that puts fun and sportsmanship first, and chess third. At TKS Summer Chess Camps, kids spiral daily through a dizzying array of very fun chess activities, including rotating tourneys, zany chess movies, “Rechess,” fun chess lessons, and many other types of fun, plus everybody’s favorite: ChessMaster Says!

The Knight School Chess Camps have been bringing laughter, joy, and chess friendships to kids for over 15 years, and TKS has perfected the recipe for an ever-changing barrage of hilarious, infectious activities that are hardly part of grandfather's chess classes. The Knight School uses its classic mardi-gras-bead system to keep up with who is undefeated in each chess tournament, and with who has lost and thus has entered the “rainbow bead tourney.” Kids play “Chess Ninja,” a fun game where they're are invited to enact a screaming, overly-dramatic death once they are winked at by their fellow campers. To be clear, The Knight School has reimagined every different aspect of chess so that the old Russian system—chess notation, mandatory silence, long clock times and mandatory one-hour gaps between games—are completely replaced with laughter, fast games played rapid-fire, and silly teaching. In addition to the fun and the friendships, this week-long immersion into chess mightily stimulates the chess growth of campers. Some even experience their “chess epiphany” at chess camp. This is the lightning-strike moment when a student has a sudden, blinding realization that literally any problem can be solved, anything can be engineered, and all scenarios are winning scenarios.

Extra Bases Baseball + STEM

0

Extra Bases is a unique learn-and-play summer baseball camp with a focus on skill development and STEM enrichment. Your camper will learn the dimensions of the baseball diamond, the most efficient way to run the bases, how to calculate averages, and why the rotation of a baseball is so important—all while chasing baseballs around in the summer sun.

Camps are a week long and designed to engage your child physically and mentally through hitting, fielding, baserunning, and throwing drills, while instilling a deeper understanding of the math and science that underpin the sport.

A typical day at camp starts with a warm-up and a drill focused on one of the four highlighted baseball skills. After each drill, campers record their results (i.e., how many times they threw the baseball into the target area). The data collected then serves as the basis for a math lesson (like calculating an average). After lunch and recess, campers regroup for team-building drills and a scrimmage in the afternoon.
