Best Things To Do with LA Kids This Weekend: Bubbles, Getty, & Bookfest, Mar 28 - 29

Okay, I finally figured it out. All these "bunny" events, cryptic references to "eggs" —what can all that be about? It's way too early in the year for any seasonal relevance; we're still a week away from April.

But then it hit me: we're a week away from April.

So, ha ha, very funny, April Fools' pranksters. You almost had me believing it's Easter next week. Getting all the malls, parks, and railways in on it, too, was very clever. Then you threw me off the scent with just enough rabbit-free events to make me think twice; oh, I bet you're feeling smart. Books aren't bunnies (true). Bubbles aren't bunnies (for sure). Jelly beans aren't bunnies... but they are the bunnies' favorite treat! You wascally wabbit!

Well, trick or not, let's get out there and enjoy this weekend; let's play and dance, and look at the stars. You can't fool me with a good time!

Keep reading for our favorite  picks for this weekend... no foolin'!

Weekend Fun for Philly Kids Mar 28-29: Fishing Derby, Play-A-Palooza and Easter Excitement

As the month of March comes to an end, is it safe to say spring is really here? There are no snowflakes in the forecast and daytime temperatures are predicted to stay above freezing. Sprigs of green grass are starting to appear, the days are getting longer and kids are finally able to play outside again.

With high hopes that winter is truly behind us, Delaware Valley families can look eagerly to the Mommy Poppins Event Calendar, which is jam-packed with activities to celebrate the spring. Cast a fishing line during Linvilla Orchard's Family Fishing Derby. Climb into a canoe at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education's Family Canoe Workshop. Or, explore Smith Memorial Playground at its opening weekend Play-A-Palooza celebration.

However, if the top thing on your weekend to-do list is catch up with the Easter Bunny, Mommy Poppins has you covered. Eat with the Easter Bunny at bunny brunches, lunches or teas. Ride along with the Easter Bunny on hayrides or train rides. Search for Easter Bunny treats at daytime or nighttime egg hunts.

Below are the top picks for the weekend. If you haven't signed up for our weekly newsletter, be sure to subscribe so you can have all of our posts delivered to your inbox.

The calendar this weekend is stocked with all kinds of holiday events for families, including oodles of Passover celebrations for kids and families, as well as chances to spot the Easter Bunny and hunt for eggs around town. Families can also give back to the planet by observing Lights Off for Earth Hour on Saturday evening.

If you missed them last weekend, it's your last chance to catch North Cambridge Family Opera's Kids' Court and Boston Ballet's Shades of Sound. Other great performance options for families include a Peter and the Wolf concert in Melrose and the Yo-Yo People in Natick. Finally, the Big Apple Circus: Metamorphosis has arrived. You can find the big top right on Boston's City Hall Plaza. Also on Mommy Poppins Boston this week:

Boston Ballet's Shades of Sound: A Parent Review

Boston Ballet’s Shades of Sound is not your grandmother’s ballet. Whether it’s the innovative choreography, the vast range of music spanning Tchaikovsky to the White Stripes, ballerinas dancing in heels, or the sparse but eye-catching sets, Shades of Sound stretches the definition of ballet – with extraordinary and highly entertaining results. If your tween says ballet is boring, ask her (rhetorically, of course), “You wanna bet?” and take her to the Boston Opera House this weekend to be proven wrong by the Boston Ballet.
