August marks the beginning of the Back-to-School blitz, which I try to tune out as much as possible, because really, summer is my jam, and because this year, I'm returning to work full time. But if you're ready to go there, there are some amazing parent-toddler classes, from music to art to yoga, on offer throughout the city and suburbs, many of which will be enrolling shortly.

The (unofficial) final weekend of summer is just a few days away and with the kids going back to school, the three-day holiday is the perfect time for one last family getaway.
Over on our Travel site, we posted about a bunch of cool last-minute travel deals, most involving plane or car rides. But for those looking to vacation without having to hit an airport or rent a vehicle, we've rounded up some of our favorite family destinations that are less than three hours from New York City and accessible via public transportation. I’m not sure why I had my daughter audition for the Boston Children’s Chorus. She was so shy, she could barely look at an adult during a conversation. She wasn’t a great singer, she knew very little about music, and she had absolutely no desire to perform.
But I insisted. I wanted her to be a part of a diverse community, to spend time with kids she wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to meet. I thought it was important for her to learn to read music and sing songs from different cultures. Most of all, I was hoping she would gain confidence – she was such a bright and capable kid, but she hadn’t yet found her voice.
What a difference two seasons in the Boston Children’s Chorus can make.

Scrapbooking is a wonderful hobby for those who love to collect mementos and look forward to creating new memories. Moms often create scrapbooks for their little ones. These words by Van Gogh greeted me at the entrance to Canvas Mixers, a party painting studio in downtown Collingswood, NJ. I must admit that I did hear such a voice in my head. After all, I don’t think I’d painted on a canvas in my life. If you look a drawing of mine, you’d think it was from a 9-year-old. But now I was at Canvas Mixers to awaken that long-dormant artist and put her to the test by painting “Black Dress.” On a 16” x 20” canvas. With real acrylic paints. While drinking wine. It was going to be an experience!
