This year the Jewish holiday Hanukkah (also known as Chanukah or the Festival of Lights) which is an eight day and night celebration began on December 8 and ends on December 16. There are many ways to commemorate with events in the area so set up your menorah or candelabra and observe the holiday with your family at one of the following kid friendly activities.

Located less than two hours south of Miami, Islamorada is an ideal family destination for parents who want a Florida Keys vacation with the kids without the extended drive to Key West. Famous for its fishing and diving, Islamorada offers families plenty to do in and around the water, a host of great kid-friendly restaurants, and some charming places to stay.
We have made the trip more than once, and each time returned wondering how did we miss that attraction? Probably because it was so difficult pulling ourselves away from the beach or pool. Here then are our top 30 things to do with kids in this Margaritaville-like piece of paradise, where the water is always blue and the skies are rarely gray.
(For those unfamiliar with Islamorada, the name comes from the Spanish, meaning "purple island." It lies between mile markers 90 and 72 on U.S. Route 1, the north-south access road that runs through the Florida Keys. Mile Marker 0 is in downtown Key West, meaning Islamorada is about two hours north of Key West. Located between Key Largo and Marathon, Florida— Islamorada consists of five inhabited islands and is home to about 6,000 full-time residents.)

About a half hour into our visit to ANN HAMILTON: the event of a thread, the brand-new interactive installation at the Park Avenue Armory, my 13-year-old son observed, "I feel like I'm trapped in modern art." My five-year-old daughter had a much less analytical reaction: "Swings!"
Indeed, there are a lot of swings in the Armory's cavernous main hall—plus hanging fabrics, fluttering pigeons and other offbeat sights. According to Hamilton, the massive multimedia piece is "made of many crossings of the near at hand and the far away." But my kids weren't concerned with its meaning; they just knew it was fun to run around and explore.

My 6th Annual Cookie Exchange party is coming up, and if I can manage to finish decorating the house, it should be its usual joyful, twinkly self.
