Boston Ballet's Shades of Sound: A Parent Review

Boston Ballet’s Shades of Sound is not your grandmother’s ballet. Whether it’s the innovative choreography, the vast range of music spanning Tchaikovsky to the White Stripes, ballerinas dancing in heels, or the sparse but eye-catching sets, Shades of Sound stretches the definition of ballet – with extraordinary and highly entertaining results. If your tween says ballet is boring, ask her (rhetorically, of course), “You wanna bet?” and take her to the Boston Opera House this weekend to be proven wrong by the Boston Ballet.

Welcome spring! Many of this weekend's events celebrate Easter including a breakfast with the Easter Bunny, a holiday spring celebration and an egg hunt. Whether you observe Easter or not, kids will likely enjoy learning all about bunnies.

Also this weekend, there are three exciting stage performances: The Ugly Duckling and the Tortoise and the Hare, The Greatest Pirate Story (N)EVER Told! and Disney Live! Presents Three Classic Fairy Tales, as well as an intriguing film called The Boy and the World. Plus, the annual WHUD Kids Fair returns to Westchester for its 20th anniversary!

Weekend Fun for NYC Kids: Concerts, Egg Hunts, Easter & Passover Celebrations March 28-29

It's an exceptional weekend for cool kids' culture in NYC. The funky circus arts show, Catch Me, opens at the New Victory Theater, plus there's our March GoList concert pick Brooklyn Kids Rock. You can also enjoy Easter egg hunts and a pair of musical Passover parties.

Although it doesn't quite feel like spring just yet, you can still enjoy seasonal fun like the opening of the Prospect Park Carousel, and Coney Island's Deno's Wonder Wheel Amusement Park and Luna Park.

These are just a few of the great things going on this weekend. All of our best bets are below. You can find additional options in our Event Calendar and Spring Fun Guide.

Long Island Children’s Museum's Sensory-Friendly Performances for Autism Awareness Month

It’s no secret that Long Island is a great place to raise kids. And one of my family’s favorite outings is to our sponsor, the Long Island Children’s Museum. Not only does it have plenty of educational and fun activities (my kids love the Bubbles area, ClimbIt and Communication Station, to name just a few), but the museum also plays host to many entertaining performances the entire family can enjoy. LICM prides itself on being a place where all kids can learn and play.

With that in mind, Long Island Children’s Museum is kicking off Autism Awareness Month with sensory-friendly performances of the Experiential Theater Company’s The Adventures of Perseus, with two evening shows on Wednesday, April 1 and Thursday, April 2 (World Autism Day) reserved exclusively for families with children on the autism spectrum or with other sensory sensitivities.

Weekend Fun for NJ Kids March 28-29: Easter Express, Egg Hunts & Astro Day

Even if the temperature is still a tad chilly, spring is most definitely in the air! Easter events are popping up all over, so hop aboard the Easter Express at Allaire State Park, fill up your baskets during an egg hunt at Oasis Family Farm and meet the Easter Bunny during a free event at historic Maywood Station. You can also celebrate the annual Holi Hai Indian Festival of Colors on the Jersey City waterfront, enjoy fantasy-themed activities at the Children’s Book Fair at the Monmouth County Library and learn all about space at Astro Day at the Morris Museum. Indoor Birthday Party Places in Southern Litchfield County

Raise your hand if, like me, you prefer to host your kids' birthday party somewhere other than your own home.  I see I'm not alone!  For us, it's difficult enough to keep our home neat and tidy, let alone with a gaggle of energetic, excited partygoers, on top of of our usual brood.  So, when it comes to birthday party planning, and since our twins' birthday falls smack in the middle of the dog days of summer, we opt for indoor spots with plenty of AC!  We've compiled a great list of ideas to begin planning your fun, kids birthday party in Southern Litchfield County. For even more great party ideas check out our Party Guide.
