Oh, it's here all right. De one and only December, with nonstop boat-parading, breakfasting, nutcracking, bright-lighting goodness. There's only one story this month, and whether it's told with a ho ho ho, a bah humbug, or a "pass the latkes," it's all about raking in the gift-wrapped goodies. (And helping our fellow man. That's in there, too.) Mother Nature has been doing her part to set the seasonal tone. If you call soggy "seasonal." (I don't.) Luckily, Los Angeles offers plenty of ways to feel the true chill of Winter (snow and everything!). Not everything is Santa this weekend: there's a Special Needs Resources Fair that comes with a free day at the Zimmer, the Grand Re-Opening of Kidseum, CicLAvia in South LA, a Sand Snowman contest, Santa in a firetruck, Santa in scuba gear, Santa swimming with the sharks... ALL WEEKEND Annual Holiday Lamplight Celebration - Montecito Heights Victorian homes lit by the aura of lamplights create a beautiful backdrop for Heritage Square's 19th annual Holiday Lamplight Celebration. Santa & Mrs Claus at The Paley Center - Beverly Hills Mrs. Claus shares holiday songs and stories on a trolley ride through Beverly Hills; Mr. Claus awaits at the Paley Center to hear Christmas wishes. While you're there, check out some holiday classics. Breakfast with Santa - La Habra Santa Claus visits La Habra Children's Museum for his favorite meal of the day: breakfast! Holiday Treats for the Animals - Long Beach Christmas comes early for the creatures at the Aquarium of the Pacific; Santa Diver delivers, even if it means swimming with the sharks. Big Hero 6 (PG) in 3D with Laser Light Show - Hollywood Sure, sure. Laser light show, Baymax himself on stage, but did you know that El Capitan is showing the Star Wars trailer before Big Hero 6 screenings ... twice! Bob Baker’s Nutcracker - Downtown Families can celebrate the enduring legacy of the recently departed puppeteer with this Christmas classic at The Bob Baker Marionette Theater. Arctic Lights at the Moorpark Teaching Zoo - Moorpark Winter’s come to the Moorpark Teaching Zoo, with snow, holiday themed animal shows, and all sorts of fun for kids. Boat Parade of Lights - Dana Point Boat owners from all over Orange County decorate their schooners and yachts to celebrate the season and compete for awards. This year the event is made even brighter by the light display IlluminOcean in the harbor area. Into the Woods - Beverly Hills The Wallis presents Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s new production of the Tony-award winning musical. Festival Navideño CalleOcho LA - Los Angeles Santa Claus shows up for the biggest Latino toy drive distribution of the Christmas season. This large street party is filled with musical stages, carnival, entertainment, food vendors, and most of all toys for the children. Christmas Tree Train & North Pole Express - Fillmore Board a vintage train to choose your own Christmas tree, or for a visit to the North Pole. Alpine Village Holiday Faire - Torrance Alpine Village's inaugural Christmas Faire includes a snow-covered play area with 500 square feet of real, ice-cold snow for kids to make snow men and snow angels. Other fun includes a craft area where kids can decorate stockings and ornaments and photo ops with Santa Claus and Ice Princesses. Listen for the sirens! 1,000 Points Of Light - Redondo Beach South Bay Galleria’s annual 1,000 Points of Light holiday caroling celebration sets a goal of 1,000 attendees to each represent one point of light. Electric Dusk Drive-In - Downtown Already feeling Bah Humbuggy? Maybe a drive-in screening of Scrooged will put you in the Christmas spirit. Home Depot Kids Workshops - Multiple Locations Kids can help with holiday decorating by making Holiday Yard Stakes at Home Depot. Breakfast with Santa Claus - Santa Monica The Jolly old Elf joins kids for breakfast and fun at Santa Monica Place. Sand Snowman Contest - Hermosa Beach True, traditional snowmen are made with snow, but it’s really hard to sculpt the fine details with frozen fingers. Plus, sand doesn’t melt. Anaheim Nutcracker Christmas Tree Lighting & Holiday Village - Anaheim The annual celebration to launch the holiday season promises appearances by Santa Claus, free snowplay, free train rides, holiday music, and a tree lighting at dusk. Silk Road Story Time - Pasadena Gather in the traveler’s tent at the Pacific Asia Museum for craft, snacks, a balloon, and storytime. This month: tales from Pakistan. AMC Theatres Sensory Friendly Films - Multiple Locations Families affected by autism can enjoy a screening of Penguins of Madagascar in a sensory-friendly environment at select AMC Theatres. Santa Comes to Westlake/Agoura & Beyond (Food Drive) - Agoura Hills Families can help bag and deliver collected food for the area’s longest running food drive (35 years and counting!).
