AFM celebrates the fact that every child learns differently and through experimental hands on work, children can have the ability to develop concentration, motivation, persistence and discipline. Instruction is based on the child’s inherent love of learning and is encouraged by giving them opportunities to engage in spontaneous, meaningful activities. AFM is the only public Montessori program in the nation that is awarded “recognition” status by Association Montessori Internationale. The Montessori Method, based on the highly successful theories of Marie Montessori, is taught in 125 countries in 22,000 schools. The goal of a Montessori education is to graduate students with a vision of what the world can be and the wherewithal to lead and accomplish that mission. Montessori is ‘Education for Peace’.
Adolescents, ages 12-14, experience learning that is real and meaningful at the AFM Erdkinder (7th - 8th grade). This program presents a unique opportunity to work and study on a farm. Linking meaningful hands-on work with academic study, the Erdkinder experience supports adolescents in answering their most important questions: “Who am I”, “How do I fit in”, and “What is my contribution going to be?”
