Central Rock Gym Kids- A Place Where Kids Move, Learn, and Belong.

At Central Rock Gym, kids put screens down, move their bodies, and take on fun, confidence-building challenges. Climbing is more than exercise, it’s a skill kids develop over time, learning to try, fall safely, try again, and celebrate progress together in a supportive community.

Intro to Climbing for Kids (Free)
This is a fun, welcoming first step into climbing. This one-time free class introduces kids to climbing basics in a low-pressure, encouraging environment. With guidance from trained instructors, kids learn movement, safety, and simple techniques through games and hands-on climbing.

No experience needed, just curiosity and a willingness to try. A great starting point for families exploring classes, camps, or open climbing.

Private Climbing for Beginners: your guide to a great first climb.
Private Climbing for Beginners is the easiest way to try climbing — no class, experience, or partner required. A belay-certified staff member stays with you, handling the ropes and offering tips so you can focus on climbing and having fun.

Includes:

  • Harness and shoe rental

  • One-on-one or small-group guidance

  • Rope climbing or bouldering support

Perfect for first-timers, families, friends, or anyone looking for a relaxed, confidence-boosting experience.

Kids Climbing Foundations (Ages 4–12): a confidence-building first climb.
This small-group class helps kids learn how climbing gyms work while safely trying beginner-friendly climbs. Instructors focus on encouragement, basic techniques, and helping every child feel proud of what they accomplish.

Kids learn:

  • Gym safety and climbing basics

  • Auto-belays and bouldering

  • How routes and difficulty levels work

No experience needed — just a love of movement and exploration.

Kids Camps
Camps offer a screen-free space where kids climb, play games, make friends, and learn new skills. Campers leave tired, happy, and excited to come back — often with new friendships that last beyond camp.

Birthday Parties
Kids climb, cheer each other on, and celebrate together while the staff handles the details — making it easy and fun for parents, too.

Family Membership: Climb together. Grow together.
Family Memberships make it easy for families to stay active, unplug, and spend meaningful time together.

Northeast LA Forest School

0

Northeast LA Forest School seeks to reverse the indoorification of childhood by providing real-life, inquiry-based explorations in nature. Children are able to indulge their curiosity, let it guide their explorations, and build their scientific thinking through trial-and-error style play. The school creates a space where children can learn through experiences and provides them with teachers they can trust to keep them safe while fostering their curiosity and independence. The hope is that our program fosters a sense of community and a life-long love of the natural world.

Northeast LA Forest School uses an active, experiential learning model, inspired by the European model of the Forest Kindergarten, and set in the urban park landscape of Los Angeles. The curriculum is emergent and is based on the expanding curiosities of the students. Days are centered around hikes and explorations and are rich with opportunities for social-emotional development. Teachers model social behaviors, guide children through conflict, and help children balance their risk assessments. Teachers are present as observers and help to remove hazards that children cannot handle.

Our student body ranges in age from 2-6. This mixed-age setting allows for the natural development of learners and leaders, and has been found to foster motivation, self-esteem, achievement, and community. As children grow, they can see themselves becoming leaders while discovering empathy for those who are where they used to be. The program breaks up into smaller, age-based groups during inquiries, and teachers are ready with the differentiation skills needed to engage different ages at different stages.

Forest Schools can build a foundation for academic success. Children who are given the chance to try, fail, and try again learn resilience, how to take initiative, and inventiveness. Problem-solving skills, social competence, and the openness to learn new things come from the freedom of outdoor play. Transitions, participation, empathy, and how to engage in a group learning setting are all necessary skills for kindergarten and skills we practice daily at NELA Forest School.
