Throughout the year, Fairfax Station Railroad hosts Hands On Days. These event feature a variety of educational activities involving train modeling and history. In addition, guests can participate in mini-workshops on railroad modeling are led by local experts who demonstrate techniques with track layouts, scenery design, scenery building, structure painting and techniques for creating historically accurate designs.

It is encouraged that visitors bring questions about their own projects. These extra activities are included with paid admission.
