Weekend Fun: Mini Maker Faire, Medieval Fest, Duck Derby

Activities for Long Island Kids: Enjoy Science and Nature Exhibits, a Strawberry Fest, and More, June 10-11

Indulge in festivals this weekend from Bavarian to medieval, strawberry and more. Head to Port Jefferson's waterfront for the Eastern Long Island Mini Maker Faire or splash around at the Long Island Children's Museum's seasonal water-based exhibit Our Backyard.

All Weekend

Long Island Bavarian Festival — Franklin Square
Enjoy live music in an Oktoberfest atmosphere at Plattduetsche Park, including performances by adult and children's groups, German food specialties, German import booths, as well as games, amusements, and rides for kids. 

Enjoy tournament games and more at Riverhead's Medieval Festival.

Medieval Festival — Riverhead
Experience medieval European culture on Long Island with a medieval fashion show, children's games, entertainment, arts and sciences of the Middle Ages, a maypole dance, tournaments, and more. 

Our Backyard — Garden City
The Long Island Children's Museum's seasonal water-play exhibit opens. Enjoy sensory play as you connect with nature and water. Included with regular museum admission. 

Strawberry Fair — East Setauket
Enjoy ice cream, good company, and an afternoon of down-home fun at Benner's Farm. Also included are old-fashioned games, live music, great food, including chocolate, sundaes, waffles, jams, and, of course, strawberries.

Saturday, June 10

Beauty and the Beast Royal Tea Party — Bellmore
Join Le Play Cafe for a Beauty and the Beast-themed tea party. Little princesses can create a flower tiara, sing, dance, play, have light finger sandwiches and mini cupcakes, and more.

Duck Derby — Massapequa
Buy a rubber duck and set sail at the pond in John Burns Park. See if your duck can quack you up some prizes. 

Calling all inventors to Port Jeff's Mini Maker Faire.

Eastern Long Island Mini Maker Faire — Port Jefferson
Held on the waterfront in downtown Port Jefferson, this maker festival hosts exhibits, workshops, hands-on creation, and exploring for all ages. Enjoy interactive sculpture building, yarn bombing, food trucks, quilting, 3D printing, and, of course, meet the makers and scientists.

Kids Fest — Shirley
Participate in free crafts and activities. Support local businesses and organizations, including vendors, summer camps, day cares, preschools, sports groups, and parent-teacher organizations. Rain date is Sunday, June 11. FREE.

Super Shark Senses — Cold Spring Harbor
Visit The Whaling Museum & Education Center and discover the amazing abilities of sharks, and even see real shark jaws. Make your own shark-tooth necklace to take home.

Explore Yarn Bombing — Port Jefferson
At the Maritime Explorium, learn ways to wrap, tie, knot, and crochet soft and bright sculptures.

Fins & Scales — Wantagh
From salmon and flounder to trout and bass, fish come in all shapes and sizes. Join this group at Jones Beach and find out what makes all fish tick.

Spring Street Fair — Farmingdale
Enjoy games, food, vendors, and more in this event hosted by the fire department and held along Main Street. Rain date, Sunday, June 25.

Street Festival — Farmingville
This family event features food, a beer garden, two entertainment stages, classic cars, bounce houses, and 100-plus vendors specializing in crafts, toys, jewelry, clothing, accessories, and more.
