Tanabata, also known as the Star Festival, is a Japanese festival celebrated every July. Make a traditional Tanzaku, which is a wishing ornament, and learn about this wonderful festival at the Long Island Children's Museum.

This festival celebrates the legend of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair), who are separated by the Milky Way, and are only allowed to meet once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar.

Check out the museum's latest exhibit, Loops and Hoops.
